Hi all,

Booking for disney trip in the summer - we wont be staying in one of the disneyland hotels. Planning to just pre-book tickets for other kids. And as youngest just would have turned 3 thought we could get her in for free. Just wondering if anybody knew how strict they were - have to show pastports or anything? Thanks

usual mine used to ask me how old they were today [grin

GladysLeap · 15/02/2012 19:27

How tall is she? TBH we took our 4 yo to DLP last year and there were loads of rides she couldn't go on because she was too short, so unless yours is a particularly tall child I wouldn't feel guilty at not paying for her.

I thought everyone lied about their DCs ages in these sorts of places. I've been places and had the staff there wink at me and encourage me to agree with them about my children being eligible for free entry.

BrightnessFalls · 15/02/2012 19:37

Everybody does it I thought. Especially on public transport.

frasersmummy · 15/02/2012 19:43

will you have to pay for her in the hotel ?? cos they will check your passports in the hotel. Not sure what checks they do but just be aware

Do you know at disneyland paris at the mo all kids under 12 stay and play free ..

and yes if you can get away with it you should do it

Totally shocked by the replies this message has received. Agree with usualsuspect. I think another mother wanted to know if it was possible or not, not have other people?s moral opinions. It?s discussions like this that give mumsnet a bad name and makes me think it?s full of sad old mums that have nothing better to do than but other mothers down. For goodness sake it is 50 quid ? who cares!! And don?t get me started on the whole ?if you can?t afford it don?t go!!!? Life is hard at the moment ? so go and enjoy your holiday and ignore these horrible mothers!!

ONLY A week over 3. Shock
you neednt ask. just do it.

BrightnessFalls · 15/02/2012 20:03

What about when there's three children and two adults who want a family room and the youngest is over two? Surely you would fib if it was either that or having to pay for two rooms? Of course you would. Enjoy your trip OP!

I have to admit to doing this at various places. I can't take mine swimming unless my oldest pretend to be 8 (hes 7). Also have two year old twins who can get away with being under 2 if they are in a buggy (I might also give them a dummy each).

But a round of ice creams costs me almost £10, and a drink each isn't much less so it balances out.

Greythorne · 16/02/2012 13:54

My experince is that they do not check children's ages at the gate.

I had annual passes last year and did not have one for my 2 year old (she was not required to have one as it's under 3s free) but I expected to have to justify her age on arrival each time. We were never asked once.

So, I would say you will be ok, especillay if you put your 3 yo in a pram as they look young tucked up in a pram.

Whether you want to do so and what message it sends to your kids about lying for financial gain is your choice.

Obviously you could not do this if staying at a Disney hotel as they require passports ro check in.

I got caught out at an event when my niece was 6. It was 5 and under were free, so I tried to pretend that my niece was 5. She piped out at the top of her voice "I'm six!".

PassTheTwiglets · 17/02/2012 15:16

A child's age is irrelevant on the rides - it's their height that is important.

Ooooh. Now here is a thing. I took my then 2 yr old DD. They asked me on entry where her ticket was. I replied in French that she was less than 3 years old, to which the lady replied 'yeah right'. I proceeded to get DDs passport and prove it. I then entered into a discussion with lady's manager about basically being called a liar. She told me that they had so man people try it on that they were guilty of tarring me with the same brush. It was a horrible start to the day.

I would reconsider if I were you. I know it is pricey, but both my kids enjoyed it. Go on the sky website if you have sky and claim your 2 free tickets for Disneyland paris.

I'd be sweating that my DC would contradict me - tbh. (... Been there... It's very Blush to be loudly lectured on ethics, honesty and morals by your own DC (the older sibs)... Dd's ballet class was 3+, and she was a week off 3. With the lady's approval I wrote down '3' on the form... The DC only forgave me when I said that 'the lady told me to write 3, because otherwise the other girls who are 2, but actually too small to go, will be sad if they see '2' written down in the register - and thhe lady said it was OK as DD birthday is next week' .... I wouldn't have liked to have been pulled up like that for anything bigger).

The only way you could do it is go the whole hog, and not celebrate her birthday until after your holiday.
