Hi there

We were planning an autumn getaway sans enfants to Paris in the Autumn but it never happened; however, we've booked flights for 13 April now, so nothing can stop us!

Probably get there friday night, leave sunday after lunch...anyone have any top tips and ideas for the perfect weekend.

Hotel - don't mind forking out a bit for a really nice couple of nights. Best areas?

Where to eat Friday...

Saturday daytime stuff to do/place to lunch

Decadent Saturday restaurant/night out....where does Carla Bruni have her tea on a Saturday?!

Sunday stroll round a market or something.

Any suggestions/thought would be most welcome

Many thanks.

I'd stay by the Seine as it's just so pretty and lots of the major sites are along it. If you are only there for a bit (and you might be staying in the hotel a bit more than normal) I'd recommend a boat trip down the river. It's much better viewed from the water and you get to snog on the way back. There's the islands in the middle that are just lovely with nice places to eat. Saw some fantastic apartments on them but quite pricey. Guess Tripadvisor is the place to go for advice and booking.com is the best for narrowing down a hotel.

Can't help with a hotel, the last time we went, DH had booked us into some sort of bail hostel.
If you are planning to go up the Eiffel Tower, pre book it. The queues were 3-4 hours long when we went. DD was tres disapoin-te.

Hey thanks for these...much appreciated.

Anyone else?

Just thinking about it, I know virtually nothing about Paris...which area to stay so we can stroll for a nice breakfast then on to...erm, dunno!

Always open to suggestions...keep em comin'

Le Marais (rue des francs bourgeois) is lovely, nice clothes shops to wander around, bakeries and cafes for breakfast and some places open on Sunday in the Jewish quarter. We were slummimg it so used House Trip to find a self catering apartment so probably not what you are looking for on the accomodation front!! Alistaire Sawdey's great places to stay is worth looking at.

My favorite places, place victor Hugo, flower market, jardins du palais royal, musee d'orsay, boat trip on the seine (bato bus is good as you can buy weekend tickets), eifel tower with pre booked tickets and Pompidou centre for night time views of eifel tower light up.

Try www.spottedbylocals.com for restaurant recommendations.

Have fun planning!!
