Puerto pollensa vs Nerja

Basically im after a resort that still retains some Spanish culture. Isn't full of larger louts and English food. Has a nice beach for dd who will be 2 and isn't too far away from a hospital should something major happen as I'll be 6 months pregnant.

I'm assured that whilst Nerja has it's tacky parts there are windy streets full of tapas bars and the like near the 'balcon'. And that peurto pollensa is a family resort without the usual naffness you can get in Spain.

Help!

I have been to both, they are both nice upmarket resorts. If you are looking for more local flavour I think Nerja has a bit more to offer, but depends what you class as tacky - DH and I very much enjoyed going to a flamenco evening but some people would classify that as naff.

Love Puerto Pollensa, have been twice. Narrow beach, long promenade for those buggy walks, great variety of restaurants/cares/ice cream shops. If you hire a car the west coast of Majorca is v accessible and worth seeing.

HTH.

Been to Puerto Pollenca twice (once April, once October) and it was lovely. We stayed in an apartment each time, last time was directly opposite the beach, no road. We always hire a car and explore - both times went round a lot of the island. Ate at some lovely places there too.

Been to both. Much prefer Puerto Pollensa, while both have great places nearby to visit and lots of culture, Puerto Pollensa has a much better beach and warm sea. Lovely (much nicer than Nerja) town of Pollensa 10min air conditioned bus ride away and picturesque pine walk along the beach in the evening. Whole island accessible by great bus service, whereas in Nerja you will need a car to get around.

i have been to both, I much preferred P Pollensa. Much more picturesque. The pine walk with the beach on one side and restaurants on the other is lovely, and great for an evening stroll. It has something about it that is missing in Nerja!!

Puerto Pollensa has a website, pollensa.com which gives lots of information about the resort, transport, restaurants, where to stay etc. There are a lot of places offering traditional food, as well as English. Beach ideal for a 2yr old, and the whole place is very flat for getting the buggy around.

Pollensa is easily accessed by public bus and is lovely.

Seem to recall Nerja beach very small & very steep shelving. Area all around been built up hugely. Vote Pollensa though only been for day when stayed further along coast.

we stayed twice at the balcon europa hotel in nerja which was great for easter. they have family rooms, and all really easy to walk to different parts of town and to beaches. i used to wait till kids and hub were asleep and then go out on my own!!

So p.pollensa seems to be the most popular.

Anyone got any good hotel tips in that case? Keen to be right on the beach and very central for bars and restaurants if possible

We have stayed as a couple at the Miramar, (opened 1912) which is on the front, just cross the mostly pedestrian way to the beach. No pool, but no problem to us with the sea so close. There were a few families with children, but not what I would call a child centred hotel, lots of antiques! It is in the thick of things though, easy to get to all the amenities, shops and restaurants, it does bed and breakfast so you have the choice of where to eat for lunch and dinner. You will find everywhere very accommodating of toddlers.

I was married in Nerja. Beautiful place . Depends where you are as to the beach but Burriana is stunning.

isw · 11/02/2012 10:56

Nerja has changed a lot over the last 2 years. There has always been a lot of very good tapas bars but even more have opened up. Outside the burriana area there are very few non spanish bars

I've not been to Nerja so can not comment.
We have been to Puerto Pollensa twice. We think its fab and its a great place for young children.
The first year we had an apartment on pine walk directly on the beach. The 2nd time we stayed in the Bellesreguard Appartments just behind pine walk. We prefer self catering so we can mix up eating in or going out to the restaurants. Some lovely restaurants in Puerto Pollensa
Defintely look at the website previously mentioned www.puertopollensa.com It's where we found our accommodation and has loads of info on the resort including a good forum.
We travelled without children the first time we went and used the local bus from the airport, it was very easy. Last year we wanted to travel around a bit so we hired a car.
