We've decided that we want to emigrate in the next three year, for mainly for our children, and before our eldest goes to high school, were from the uk and want more from life,
Me personally I feel Australia is perfect for what we want ie, lifestyle better education and future for our children.. Does anyone on here come from either and help us decide??

You might want to re-post this query in the Living Overseas topic. Think you will get a better response Smile

It depends on personal circumstances.

I know of two families that emigrated to Australia and they have never looked back! I know of one who went to Canada - they too have never looked back and another family whose mum was born here, went to Canada as a small child, came back to work and then took her two children back to Canada and she too has never looked back!

We were going to Canada two years ago as DH had worked out there in the chemical engineering business and there were loads of jobs for him (Alberta). Me however, had to go back to University to do Canadian Studies in order to teach Primary Education and even then I would start back at the bottom despite teaching for 10 years over here. Pay wasn't as good for me too.

DH researched on forums specifically for ex-pats and found that OUR lives would be no worse or better in Canada (before DS came along of course!). Annual leave from employment is far better in the UK and of course there is free healthcare (not sure about UK). The one thing that swayed it for us was proper seasons. E.g. winter meant snow and lots of it and summer meant warm sunny weather.

I think you need to look at job prospects, salary, holiday entitilment, welfare (for illness or unemployment), cost of living and what is taught in the education system and of course further education if necessary and weigh it up in each country as well as the UK.

We decided that a move which would be costly, tiring and long-winded for a lifestyle no better than what we had here wasn't worth it.

You have to at least go and spend 3 or 4 weeks in each country before making such a monumental decision. first you need to make sure that they will take you - it isnt just a case of pitching up they have certain skills quotas etc. No good going any further than that if they don't want you. you also have to think of things like the extra cost of healthcare (OK if none of you have long term health problems but can be tricky if you do) also relatives back here - would you miss them can they come and visit you. my best friend went to aus. he hated it and came back but that in itself was fraught with problems due to not paying NI whilst away etc. it would be rotten for your kids if you went and in a couple of years decided you didnt like it. i would also suggest you put down the reasons why you don't like where you are at the moment - best piece of advice i ever got was "your baggage goes with you" good luck

I wold suggest making sure you qualify for visas first.
