Barcelona

Hi thinking of spending a week in Barcelona with our two DC (2 and 4) first week of April. Any suggestions, thoughts, must do? is it a family friendly city and can anyone recommend an apartment for us to stay in? TIA

Don't want to tell you because you might make them too busy for me to go, but look on i-escape for into barcelona ( they do have their own website but I find this the easier way to find them). A number of flats in lovely area v close to everything. You can walk most key places (beach, Ramblas, old town), and otherwise public transport good, supermarket very near and a good park. Its lively but not too noisy for children. We love it. Been 4 times last 2 with Ds at ages 3 and 4. Have fun.

Oh its a fantastic city with kids. Parc Guell, beach, aquarium, just walking about, park whose name I ve forgotten with zoo. Its all good. Just don t try to do too much ...

We went with another family when DS was 2 and the DD was 5. Both kids had a great time. Restaurants were very accommodating - not much in the way of booster seats, but making noodles w/butter for DS - that sort of thing. The zoo was great but we found the aquarium too crowded with school groups. The kids had fun on the beach and we enjoyed giggling at the naked male jogger on the beach and the naked male bicyclist. My friend looked it up later and nudity is considered a human right in Barcelona.

It's great for children as Barcelona is fairly small. The old town is largely pedestrian and there is the beach. Most apartments won't have a pool but this may or may not be an issue in April (has been easily hot enough by May).
The funfair at Tibidabo is very nice and has amazing views although it has lots of rides for little ones has some good rides for adults.
Taxi's are everywhere and cheap which is often a good way to see anything a bit further than a walk. The metro is great and cheap but obviously involves waiting and you can't see the city as you go round. My son loves Casa Mila wjich has the cool roof and an apartment to walk round from the 1920's.
Barcelona is very expensive so do the set lunch and dinners and obviously there is tapas which is handy for the children.

A bit late, but in case anyone else is looking - Check out www.KidsinBarcelona.com website - fantastic resource and review of activities, apartments, things to do... We are just back from a week with a 3 and a 5 year old and loved it. The kids would recommend - ALL transport options, cable car, trams, funicular railways - Runner Bean Tours Family and Kids Tour, a fabulous fun morning finding the secret bits of the Gothic Quarter - CosmoCaixa, a highly interactive science museum with loads of things for kids particularly at weekends (and empty too!), MIBA, the inventions museum in the Gothic quarter with lots of wild inventions and a slide between floors -. Would NOT recommend Tourist bus - expensive, crowded and the excitement of open top bus option wore off quickly... Great city for kids! And when its all too much, theres the beach! What could be better!
