First holiday abroad with 3 month old twins - help please

Hi

I'm taking my 3 month old twin boys to Tenerife for a few days in February. I've booked a villa and am in contact with a hire company that can supply us with a steraliser, bouncy chairs, changing table and double pram so that bit is all sorted.

Is there anything else I need to be thinking about? We're going to take them through the airport in Baby Bjorns so we don't have to take the pram and I guess stick as close to their routine as possible while out there (although on the way back it's a 2am flight so this could all go pear shaped!)

What is the best way to deal with feeding on the plane? I'll need really to take 4 bottles and 4 cartons with us on the plane - will they allow this with all the new rules.

Other than my bottles, enough nappies for the 1st day and formula (which I just know is going to spill all over everything in my suitcase!) is there anything else I haven't thought of that I need to take for the babies other than clothes?

any general advice appreciated!

Willow

Buy your formula after PP control, you could buy the ready made cartons. I am sure the flight staff will warm it up. They did for my DD.
Have you got a cot for them? UV protective swimsuits and hats?
Double or triple wrap your tin of forumla in carrier bags. That way if it does spill into your suitcase (unlikely) it won't go over your clothes.

Thanks - I don't have UV protective swimsuits, just nappy swimshorts. Can't I just lather them in suntan cream? I have hats.

I didn't know you could buy the cartons after. I guess Boots will have them?

Yep, they have a boots after most duty free which provides a range of milks usually, although beware and leave room in your hand luggage because some (especially) lowcost airlines will make you fit it inside while you board the plane. With regards to bottles ALL airports will let you carry a certain number of bottles per baby through security buy you have to be willing to taste it if requested to prove its not sinister.

With regards to UV suits, I only used them after my kids could sit/stand and be in the sun, presumably at 3m they wont be! Just keep them well covered. I always took linen/Muslin squares or sheets to cover them when they were being carried and tried not to be in any direct sunlight for more than a few minutes. If you are, certainly shield their eyes from it.

With the pushchairs you're hiring (fabulous idea by the way!) make sure they have UV parasols, if not take the clip on kind!!!

Also I would feed babies on take off and landing to try and protect their ears.

Congratulations on the beautiful boys and have an awesome break!!!

Oh and formula in the suitcase, we always took it inside of one of elder kids lunchbags (the zip up insulated kind) as theyre designed to hold leaks in for a little bit, just stick a bit of tissue in there to soak up any mess.

my advise.. no need for sun cream if you keep them in the shade. sun cream jsut makes the sweaty sticky and sometimes spotty. i would be amazed if its warm enough to swim so dont plan to unless there is an indoor pool.

take formula powder in one of those shakey things, or just measure it in to the bottle and add room temperature bottled water when you need it.

take your pram, the airline wont mind, they will make a total fuss of you and help you, and if you are delayed you will need somewhere to put the babies! lugging them to gate 523 is no joke with a nappy bag over your shoulder and worrying about where you shoved your passport.

muslins a good idea. you can hang them in the car windows for shade and line the car seats with them to stop them getting sweaty.

yeh i agree on the sunscreen, even especially for babies super sensitive garbage they sell isnt pleasant, and brought out a rash on my youngest, plus its also reeeeeeeeeeeeeally hard to spread out! its thicker than tar!
