I intend to keep it until the last minute, and also put it in a buggy bag to help protect it!!

I think the buggy bag will help prevent the main problem, which in our experience was wheels/hood hinges catching on things in transit

We've not had any problems, just make sure end so f all straps etc are secured inside so they can't catch on the conveyor or be used to sling it around.

never had a problem, they are taken down by a real person from the gate

bubblerock · 18/01/2006 13:22

Ours was damaged, they're not exactly gentle with things but we'd taken a cheapy one (lighter) so it was okay.

We've never had a problem, but we do bring a cheapy one with us because it's lightweight. Do you know whether the airline will be returning it to you as you get off the plane (in which case damage is very unlikely) or at baggage reclaim (when there is a higher risk that heavy suitcases might be piled on top of it)?

I've had two buggies broken or damaged on flights so I definitely wouldn't take an expensive one. Also, if it is damaged, you have to do all the groundwork in order to have it repaired/replaced and usually within a short limited time after you travel.
I had to travel miles to a mothercare branch in N Ireland to get a quote to repair a broken handle - couldn't use the buggy without it (thankfully was able to borrow a spare buggy from my brother), so I culd potentially have had to buy a new one anyway as I couldn't be 'buggyless' whilst there. The airline wouldn't have paid for that though, nor taken into consideration the time your buggy would be away for to be fixed!

Ours came back covered in thick black marks.

never had a problem - flown to Aus and back and then back again to Australia. We take us up to boarding and we put it in the buggy bag - which makes it easy to handle.

WestCountryLass · 18/01/2006 21:35

As a rule no, however on our last holiday they unloaded our buggy onto the tarmac and then ran over it with the steps THey carried 5 different mangled up bits of metal and some fabric through to us and said "we had an accident" - bwahahahaha

The good news was that they gave us compensation for a new buggy

pumpkin7 · 20/01/2006 10:27

I've never had a problem but I would never take an expensive one just in case.

nowanearlyNicemum · 20/01/2006 10:50

not been a problem for us - apart from the INCREDIBLY sticky stickers they seem to plaster it with which take days and serious amounts of chemical use to remove.
by the way, I'd never heard of a buggy bag - sounds like a good idea, where can I get one?

I have flown alot within europe with both a large three wheeler (no buggy bag) and and umbrella style. Never had any problems with damage.
