Anyone travelled long haul with Virgin?

Off to Florida in June and flying with Virgin. First time of flying with Virgin, so looking forward to it - hopefully it will be much nicer than the others!

Anyway, have to book DD's meal. She is 3y9m nd enjoys her food ont he whole. Have the choice of booking her a child's meal or to leave her with the normal meal.

Thinking of ordering a child's meal simply as it gives her and DH more choice between them.

Anyone travelled with them? What is the food like? Do you recommend the child's meal?

Bog standard children's fare TBH. Nuggety things with chips etc. I think it's a "snack box" for the return flight as they assume your child will be asleep. Adult stuff is usually OK - 3 options, one a veggie one.

(but if you're flying out of Orlando use the Disney check in for your return!)

I would fly with AA instead, virgin seat pitches appalling. Not had the kids food though

SecondhandRose · 18/01/2006 12:36

Virgin's childrens food is crap, full of sweets, sugary drink and swirly tomatoey muck to eat. Take sandwiches, raisins, fruit, water in bottles. We came back long haul on 22nd Dec and both kids refused to eat the hot part and just ate the sweets.

I'll go for adult menu then I think. She isn't into nugget type stuff, and not keen on chips.

She has loved dinner type on the airplane before so i am sure she will be happy with the adult meal

I always take snacks as well anyway.

CD - already booked. Wasn't prepared to pay even more for the flights than we are doing! Seat pitch doesn't bother me - only 5 foot :D Might DH though, but it can't be any worse than our previous flights - he has an aisle seat booked!

we flew premium economy with Virgin in Oct 04 - it was very good- kids were able to curl up and sleep in the seats. Foodwise all I can remember is ds1 eating the raw carrot sticks, think it might have been chicken nuggets for main course.

If you take your own fruit etc remember to leave it on the plane if it isn't eaten.

Yes, I will Although they didn't object to raisins coming off last time.

Now have to choose my options, as i don't have meat. Have Vegetarian - Vegan or Vegetarian - Lacto intorelance I think my dad said. Think I will go for latter and pinch DH's butter and milk

we're off to Orlando in October - flying Virgin again but cattle class out and premium economy home

Hulababy · 18/01/2006 13:09

We are just economy both ways. My parents did threaten to upgrade themselves, and leave us with DD. Have even checkoed online to make sure they didn't!!!

A word of warning - I flew out Premium Economy to orlando in December (work ) and pre-booked my seat for the return, as I wanted to be upstairs to try to get some sleep.

When I checked in I wasn't given the seat I'd booked online, and in fact they were trying to bump people off the flight as it was over-booked! (I got no sleep in the end, but hey-ho, I'd had a good trip!)

The steward/esses are really nice, and the food fine. Wasn't too impressed with the films/tv. It was the same both ways, which, as I couldn't sleep, was a bit disappointing.
