Is there anything you HAVE to see in Singapore?

DP is in Singapore for work. He has had to do a course there and is flying to Malaysia Sunday. He has a meeting in the morning(Singapore time) and then has the rest of the day to do what he wants. He's had a little look around, he's been to Chinatown and seen a bit of Orchard Road.

Is there anything he has got to go and see before he leaves?

Thanks

If he's into History/the war the WW2 Prison Museum at Changi (near the airport) is fab - quite sad and thought provoking in parts.

Similarly, there's a WW2 museum on Sentosa Island - you can get the monorail over from VivoCity shopping centre.

Has he been along Boat/Clarke Quays? Good for an idea of what the original Singapore was like.

I will tell him about the museums. I don't think he's been to Clarke Quays but not sure so will tell him about there too.

Thanks

I disregarded the Night Safari as being too childish but DH says he'd go on his own - basically it's a nocturnal zoo, open from 8pm til about 11, if he's got an evening with nothing to do.

Little India is worth a walk around, especially the wet market if he's a bit of a foodie/amateur chef type.

Will keep thinking.

I'm trying to persuade him to go on the night safari but I think he'd rather be in bedGrin

He loves cooking so little India sounds good for him.

Oh, if you trust him not to get silly, then a trip to Orchard Towers (otherwise known as Four Floors of Whores) is an education. Tell him to get an outside seat at Harry's bar opposite and try to spot which of the prostitutes are lady-boys. It's a real education Grin.

The Zoo. Actually there are two separate zoos - a day zoo and a night zoo. We went to the day zoo and it's amazing.

I loved Little India too and my DH who has been to India a few times said it was very authentic. We ate off banana leaves with our fingers in the restaurants.

He could have a Singapore Sling in Raffles - overpriced but it's just one of those things tourists do in Singapore and is a reminder of colonial history.

You can do the Night Safari in a couple of hours and it is definitely something you'd never do anywhere else.

Singapore's odd, in that there isn't one specific 'must do'.

One of the Dragonboat tours that take you round the river are a good time filler (but they do have possibly the most annoying narrated guide, think 'out of work American actor fulfilling all his frustrated ambitions' and you're someway there).

I'll email him all the suggestions. Thanks very much. Smile
