Majorca - Pollensa is lovely and as far away from the 18-30 crowd as you can get. Cala Bona is also very nice. Did try Cala Dor as it was recommended but would not go there again.

noexcuses · 11/01/2012 15:06

Cala Ratjada - NE Majorca. More German than Brit resort. It's on a peninsula and with kids you want the north side as the beach there is lovely, backed by trees and gently shelves. The other beach there shelves v steeply.

BrigitBigKnickers · 11/01/2012 15:14

Avoid- Magaluf- it's horrible- tacky pubs barts and clubs and kiss me quick hats.

Puerta Pllensa is lovely- more of a family resort.

mosschops30 · 11/01/2012 15:18

We loved cala dor, lots of places to eat, lovely marina, felt very safe there.
Went to cala bona last year and although the resort was nice, our hotel was full of chavs (despite being 4* and having good reviews).
Havent been to puerta pollensa but everyone ive spoken to loves it.

Avoid magaluf, cala millor, palma nova, alcudia

magentastardust · 11/01/2012 17:08

Soller and Deia are also lovely again the opposite from Magaluf etc.
Pollensa old town and puerto pollensa also really nice.

makemineapinot · 11/01/2012 17:56

we're going here in July! can't wait!! Any tips Mosschops?! Sorry for hi-jack x

mosschops30 · 11/01/2012 22:04

Well according to trip advisor your hotel is about a 50 min walk into cala dor so not sure how much time youll spend there.
But there is a lovely restaurant in the marina calle blanco y negro, pricey but worth it for a one off dinner.
There are lots of lovely places to eat in the town nd some amazing shops (todds for example Smile).

mosschops30 · 11/01/2012 22:06

Oh and the beach there is amazing, clear water (i dont do sea swimming but even i went in) glorious but get there early as it roes get busy.
The coconut man is crazy but fab

tkband3 · 11/01/2012 22:16

Another vote for Soller here. Deia is beautiful, but ££££££ and up in the mountains and a fair drive from the nearest sandy beach (at Soller). Soller town is a really lovely old town, about 1.5km in from the coast. Puerto de Soller is where the beach is - a lovely old early 20th century tram runs between the two during the day. The beach is quite narrow and is probably quite busy in high season (haven't been there in the summer yet), but is nice and sandy, and bordered by restaurants and shops. The sea is perfect for children to paddle/play/swim in - not too deep. There are even ducks swimming in it!

There are some nice hotels and apartment places in Puerto de Soller or there are lots of houses/villas to rent in the area and up in the mountains. Would highly recommend the cottage we rented last April (and are renting again this summer) if you're interested.

We stayed at the Mariners Club in Alcudia. Appts were basic but clean & had a/c (although you had to pay extra....but worth it imo). It's a small family orientated complex with a nice swimming pool, kids play area & evening entertainment till midnight. A bit cheesy, but actually quite good fun and young kids loved it. Once the music stopped at midnight, the resort was quiet

The beach at Alcudia is beautiful, miles of golden sand and it wasn't too busy when we were there last July. Also plenty places to eat near by in the resort or in the nearby Port of Alcudia. However, we preferred travelling into the old town of Alcudia where there were lovely little shops and lots of fantastic restaurants.

We'll defintely go back again there within the next couple of years.

A vote for puerto pollensa here, that's where we'll go next time we go back. Loved the relaxed feeling, lovely little sandy cove beaches and market day.

We stayed at prinsotel la dorada, Alcudia and had a great holiday

link to where we stayed. Bus ran to Alcudia and Pollensa so although was slightly isolated could easily get around to nearby places and the hotel was fantastic for us and the DC

Rhubarb35 · 11/01/2012 23:33

Avoid Shagaluf Magaluf and Palma Nova.

I liked Alcudia and found it to be family orientated but there are quieter resorts and that was a few years ago now.

ballbreaker · 13/01/2012 16:54

Cala San Vicente 5 mins from Pollensa-beautiful cove beaches, clean, quiet and very child-friendly.

Was there for a fortnight in October and did not meet any other British tourists. It is like the land that time forgot-quaint and old-fashioned and not resort like.

TwoIfBySea · 13/01/2012 17:01

We (my and dts then age 8) went to the Holiday Village Viva in C'an Picafort. It was a really nice town, the hotel was about 10 minutes walk from the beach.

SecretSquirrels · 14/01/2012 17:55

I'm looking at Majorca for August with two teens. I want somewhere busy but not too chavvy downmarket. Cala D'Or is looking favourite at the moment.
When the DSs were younger we went to Menorca which is lovely but quiet.

trimmers · 09/01/2013 22:59

Tkband3 - I'd love to hear cottage recommendation. Just been browsing Owners Direct but hard to tell what they are like in real life. Went to Soller when pregnant with DD - now 5. Think it's perfect place for kids and adults alike.

TheWombat · 09/01/2013 23:02

Puerto pollensa would get my vote too. I am Envy, it's lovely there!
