France or Cornwall - summer holiday

Which would you go for? We go to Cornwall every year at Easter and stay at www.bosinver.co.uk which we love. We were planning on two weeks at a gite complex in France this summer (we've previously been to the Loire but found it too quiet and disliked driving for at least an hour to get to anywhere) and have provisionally booked a gite at La Garenne nr. La Rochelle - so a lot of driving from London where we live.

Now I'm wondering if we might be just as well to go back to Cornwall in the summer (we're going this Easter as well) - we know it, weather has always been kind to us previously (though of course there are no guarantees - like France) and I know my DDs would be just as thrilled to go back to Bosinver for another holiday as they would France.

WWYD? Cornwall would work out cheaper for accomodation, but I'm not massively concerned about that.

i would go for france but choose brittany because its like cornwall with better weather and less tat and easier to get to. Or i would choose pembrokeshire in wales as its similar to cornwall in terms of beaches etc but less people and better quality accommodation for the cost

Try SE Cornwall coast for a change. we stay at Wringworthy holiday cottages near Looe and find it a lot less busy than the North coast and easier to get to as you avoid the A30 car park main road and go on the A38 instead. Would also put in a vote for North Wales we love Porthmadog and the area around there. Black rock sands, little train, portmeirion. why go to France?

I second Dreamin, Pembrokshire is beautiful.

Aranea · 10/01/2012 14:39

La Garenne is nice. The drive from London is OK if you break for the night and have plenty of CDs in the car!

I love Cornwall and have also stayed in the Looe area.

But I love France, we drive from Glasgow every year, last year to the Languedoc right down near Spain. (breaking journey up overnight in Folkestone) The French motorways mean you can reach places without the delays (generally) you get here. I would choose France, my idea of heaven is quiet - we have booked a gite in the middle of nowhere with its own pool this year, cant wait! You could pick somewhere a bit more "livelier" though.

Thank you for the replies. Pembrokeshire is definitely somewhere I'd consider, perhaps next year. For this year I think it's definitely Cornwall again or France. Does anyone have any gite recommendations?

Hi.. we loved France so much 2 years ago that we are going back this summer.

We stay in the same region as where La Garenne is situated. We are booked again at Mirabelle Gites, a 5 gite complex. Its fab. Website is www.bestfrenchgites.co.uk. Its also advertised on owners direct.. prop ref FR2871.

If you want anymore info let me know.

I do love Cornwall but this area of France is gorgeous. And more likely to better weather!!

Jen, thank you, I have already looked at your gite today, it looks lovely. But a deal breaker for us is a swimming pool, I have two waterbabies and a fish for a husband! So a pool is massively important to us!

Wow, am very Grin you've been looking at us already Gorran!
We've toyed with the idea of a pool for ages (my 2 DS's are always in the water too) but there is a pool 5 minutes drive away - & expense/safety aside with installing our own pool we could never compete with the rapids and slides etc here

Hope you find somewhere suitable.

duckdodgers · 10/01/2012 22:02

owners direct is a good website

For the past 2 years we have had a private pool - I wouldnt consider going anywhere without one now, love the freedom of it being at your property!

frenchfancy · 11/01/2012 06:45

Try www.ownersdirect.co.uk/france/FR2371.htm The pool is lovely.

Gorran · 11/01/2012 08:13

Frenchfancy - that does look lovely, but there's only four of us so we really only need two bedrooms.
