Passport for baby at short notice!

Hi,

I'm going on holiday in 3 wks and I haven't got a passport for my 10 month old yet (am so stupid, kept meaning to do it and now it's getting late). I'm thinking of going to the passport office to use their week service. I've heard it can be quite complicated. Has anyone appled for a passport this way? Were there any problems?

I've also read the person doing counter signature has to have known the applicant or 2 years- as baby is only 10 months old do you need to find someone who has known the parents for 2 yrs or does it not matter for a baby?

Also, do you need to bring the baby to the passport office? Can I just send my husband?

Thanks in advance!

It was just as straightforward as a normal passport application
I didn't have any problems

The counter signatory needs to have known the parents for 2 years

I took my child but I can't remember if I needed to or not

When I got my first baby passports they both took less than a week so you still have time to do it by post but don't leave it too much longer.

The countersignatory needs to have know you for 2 years.

The post office do a checking service to make sure it is all filled in properly but you are leaving it really late so suggest you get the photo's done (where did all those booths go?) and the form completed asap, go through the post office and cross your fingers. we had renewals back in 3 and 5 days but it takes longer for new ones so i would crack on. have a fab holiday together.

Thanks for your replies. I'm too nervous to do it through the post office so I've phoned up the passport office this morning and they said I can send my husband (who works in london), which is a relief as I wasn't looking forward to taking my baby into london. From your replies it seems pretty straight forward so I feel more relaxed now. Thank you.

The counter signatory needs to have known the applicant - probably DH in your case fo two years.

You also need a long version of the birth certificate (which shows the parents, thus making it possible to confirm nationality from parents), and DH should take his passport (probably yours too, just to be on the safe side).
