Paris and Florida.

How much does it cost, can you buy tickets on the gate, do you have to do a package? I could go on and on!

All advice welcome.

Never been to Paris but been to Florida many times. Apart from the 1st time when we went on a package we always book flights, car, holiday home and tickets independently. Can be very expensive, especially the tickets and also if you decide to stay inside "the world". A good book to get is the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney. It covers just about everything you need to know.

mumto2andnomore · 07/01/2012 17:17

I think Paris is ok when the kids are little, much easier to get to etc but it doesnt compare to florida which is amazing ! Look on disboards or the dibb for loads of info.

Only been to Disney Paris for the day, we were on holiday in the South France last year and stopped off on the drive home. Had bought he tickets from the Disney shop before we went - I think it was about £190 for a day hopper tickets for 2 adults and 2 children, as far as Im aware price is the same everywhere.

We stayed in the Explorers Hotel, very near and affiliated to Disney but not an actually Disney Hotel so cheaper. After Disney we were going to camp but decided at the last minute to book into a B&B and got one within 15 minutes of Disney for £50.

Thanks, their website seems really opaque on the details, I will look up the sites suggested.

Booked it here

Because its affiliated if you show your hotel check in card at the gates of Disney you get free parking so that saved us about 12 euros I think. Evening meals were expensive so we didnt bother, there is a McDonalds in the nearby shopping centre that did us Grin

We went last year to Paris. I was signed up to travel zoo and spotted a kids go free deal with 50% off adults for accommodation including park tickets. Can't remember the name of whO we booked with, will dig out if you are interested but they were significantly cheaper than any other deal we saw. I think I've probably put it on here elsewhere on discussions about dlp. oh and it was a flash sale so just for a few days offering selected dates which worked for us as it was when we wanted to go - august so peak time!

We got ferry across to Calais then drove down to Reims where we stayed overnight. Then we were about an hours drive from dlp the next day - the tickets we got were for three days and two nights so we didn't want to waste one of our park days driving from the uk. We were at the Disney cheapie hotel Santa fe which was fine as we weren't in it for long. Breakfast was basic and you needed to be there early or late or you could queue for ages. We didn't eat there in the evening - too expensive and didn't look that nice. Instead grabbed food at the local supermarket or ate at a restaurant at the local shopping centre - much cheaper and nicer.

Our dc were 6 & 3 - they enjoyed it but there was a lot of stuff that they couldn't go on as they were too small. Three days was anout right as a first visit length. Then went back via Reims again for another overnight to break up journey. That route also has benefit that you avoid Paris, was a pretty easy run mostly on the autoroute. If we were doing it again and it was going to be part of our main holiday I would also consider spending a day or two more around there as it's a nice area.

Doing this on my phone so takes a long time to type stuff out, will add more when on pc if you want. And definitely search for some dlp threads last summer - I found some good info which helped lots and have contributed stuff since I got back.

zipzap · 07/01/2012 23:20

Oh and there's a good dlp board on trip advisor, one of the moderators is also on MN and cry helpful. Lots of info plus links to other useful sites.

And I think if you are in France there are cheaper ways of buying the tickets through the tabac or relais shops or something like that. Don't think you have to get them there.

For the 4 of us, I reckon we paid about £400 for 3 days worth of park tickets, 2 nights accommodation with included breakfast. Free Shuttlebus to the park was included and free parking at the hotel. All in all, quite reasonable.

Came back from Florida just before Christmas so have lots of info and advice. We did it independently booking flights ourselves, accom through vrbo website and using the unofficial disneyland with kids guide book which was invaluable. We stayed at Sunset lakes which was only 10 mins away so we could break up the day. best bits of advice in a nutshell would be 1)buy your park tickets for disney and universal before you go (universal is better for older kids) 2) go outside school hols. However difficult it is to do this nothing compares to the 160 minute queue for the pixar ride etc when you are there if it is school hols. out of school hols 10 min queues. 3) go self catering 4) make sure you have a really good budget we spent £9.5K for 5 of us for 2 weeks. 5) don't go when it is too hot. Dec. was a lovely 74 degrees every day perfect with kids 6) leave your inhibitions and cynicism at home. PM me for more details.

i went to eurodisney in July last year and paid £550 for 2 adults 2 kids for 3 nights and 4 days of park tickets. My kids were 3 and 5. We stayed at the Cheyenne - fairly cheap and basic but ok as literally only slept there. The park itself is great but much smaller than i imagined - got round it in 2 days and didnt really need any longer - we didn't even bother on our 4th day as kids bored by then!

Its VERY expensive there though - £10 for a pint and £12 for a hot dog! - when people said that to me i didn't believe them but its true. To be honest, disney was good and i'm glad i've been as its put me off the real disney because i've realised the kids enjoyed a typical thomson family holiday much more - disney is so busy i don't think it feels like a holiday!

We went through eurotunnel for £69

If you can afford it I would pay more and go to Florida. We stayed in a 4 star Disney hotel and it was so bad the name escapes me. It was the service that was so dire. We had a 5 month old and ended up having to wash bottles in the bath and BEG the kitchen to give me hot water to make up feeds.
You could not move at meals times although the buffet was good.
Many people in the hotel had been to Florida and said it was soooooo much better than Paris. Will find hotel name for you!

WentworthMillerMad · 08/01/2012 10:28

Sequoia lodge! Awful!

duckdodgers · 08/01/2012 13:35

Assunny says food costs can soon add up - very expensive. However we ate a huge breakfast at the hotel and took some fruit and crisps in with us for the day so only needed a snack meal - we got chicken nuggets and hot dogs and chips for 4 of us with drinks for about 35 euros I think. Table service restaurants were really expensive.

This is a great website for looking at menus and prices in Disney Paris

Chundle · 13/01/2012 17:31

I been to Disneyland in California which is the original one and it was fab would def go back. Disney Paris is great and we going again in Feb. Florida doesn't appeal to me as there's so much there you can't possibly see and do it all
