Which ferry crossing to France??

Have just been on ferry website to book Portsmouth to St Malo crossing for August - £813!!!!!! Ulp. DH is worried about seasickness. Has anyone done this crossing in August and is it usually ok??

Also, how long would it take to drive from Calais to St Malo? It's going to be hours, isn't it??

Have to weigh up length of time driving/cost/chance of being seasick. Hmmm.

Help, what should we do?

It's the Portsmouth Caen and Porstmouth Cherbourg fastcrafts that are known as the vomit comets. If you are in anyway seasick then take the slow ferry and not the seacat fastcrafts as they are not too stable.

You can look up the driving times on www.viamichelin.com

We either use the tunnel or take the Brittany Ferries Portsmouth-Caen route depending on our final destination.

The St Malo crossing is the most expensive - check out the Caen one, and then Cherbourg.

Thanks all :)

Have just had a bit of a blow - bloody management company that we booked Brittany gite through has just emailed to say that the owner has accepted a booking on that gite (along with the 2 other apartments in the complex) TODAY and so we can't have the apartment!!! Am a bit really hacked off because we filled in the booking forms on FRIDAY and we had been emailing back and forth before that. Git. And we'd told the kids about it as well. :(

So, back to the drawing board. We loved it as it had fab sea views and was 20m from the beach. Have been searching for other similar gites but they all seem to be booked up. Bugger bugger bugger!!!

Ponders - 6 hours still too much for dh! But hadn't thought of going to Cherbough - thank you - will look again :) We're in Bedfordshire so Poole is too far really.

Swedie - we're in Beds so Hull is the wrong way, sadly :(

Dont know if any if this would be suitable? Its a mobile home

oh bad luck about the double booking Sad

in many ways it's safer booking direct with the owner - have a look at \link{http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/search/refined/france/cotes-darmor/region:194/Location+Type:beach#sp=380\holiday-rentals} & \link{http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/cotes-armor.htm\ownersdirect}

I've linked to Cotes d'Armor because that's where your other one was but they have properties everywhere pretty much

Thanks Ponders - some lovely gites on owners direct. Have emailed a few so will wait for them to email back! :) Appreciate your help :) x
