Is there any point going somewhere nice and hot with a 2.5yr old and a 6 month old?

We've been trying to come up with ideas for a well-needed holiday for May this year. In the old days we'd go somewhere hot, maybe with a spa, beach, etc. When DS1 was 9 months we went to a Caribbean all-inclusive which was lovely. But for this holiday, DS1 will be 2.5 and DS2 will be 6 months. I've done a few searches and have been horrified to see that DS1 is charged the full adult price for most of them even though we'd all be in one room. I'm a bit Hmm at paying out that sort of money especially as I'm also wondering what it will be like chasing a toddler round in the heat - the days of laying on a sun-lounger are clearly gone Grin (I don't want to put him in a creche).
So is there any point going somewhere like this at their age? Has anyone still done these sorts of resort holidays with toddlers/babies and still genuinely enjoyed themselves?
Does anyone have alternative ideas for a holiday for us? Or is there just no point at all going away with DCs of this age

How about hiring a villa somewhere? Your own pool, can get an hour of sunbed time whilst they're napping (if you can co-ordinate!), your own pace?

We did consider that but DH wants somewhere where there are things going on and other people/families to talk to, rather than just us two and the DCs. I should feel offended really that my scintillating conversation isn't enough...

I wouldn't go anywhere really hot and sunny with DCs that age, as IME they get grouchy if they are hot and dehydrated, and you spend all your time applying sunscreen, getting them to put their hats back on, looking for shade etc.

But going to a child-friendly resort at a slightly cooler time of year can be good. I'd try to find one that has apartments rather than hotel-style rooms - it makes a huge difference if you have a separate living room to chill out in the evenings rather than whispering in a darkened hotel room. Somewhere with child-friendly pools, and maybe a kids club you could book a few sessions in to give the two-year-old a chance to play with other toys and make some friends (and to give you a break). We used to go to a resort in Queensland that was perfect for all that, but I'm guessing that's too far for you.

Mark Warner holidays? pricey but you get what you pay for. really child friendly hotel like Moonfleet Manor or Bedruthan steps. taking young kids on really hot holidays staying somewhere adults like is a waste of money tbh. Yes - the days of sun lounger, book, late night meals and even later mornings won't be back for another 10 years Smile

Depends on your expectations really.

You will still be parenting full time, but doing it somewhere pretty and warm can be a nice change, especially when you get the week off from cooking, housework and real life.

Don't go anywhere too hot.

We have taken our girls away since they were babies and it was so nice. We just stayed in small apartments with swimming pools and by the sea. Obvioulsy it will be a different kind of holiday that you ever had before but to see the children playing in the sand and splashing in the water is just wonderful.
