Hi

I am looking at booking a 3 night min stay at lapland in dec 2012 for 2 adults and 2 dd aged 5 and 7. Can anyone recommend any good cheap companies etc. I've heard esprit are good?

Is it worth waiting til oct/nov for a cheap deal as i noticed this winter they were going for about £1600 whereas pre booking seems to be about £3000???

thanks for your help!

The price did seem to go down nearer to December. We didn't book until about three weeks before we went.

We paid around £1700 (before trips) for four nights full board. We booked with Thomson. We met several people who had paid varying prices which I always find very annoying especially when they have paid less. Grin

I was quoted £3600 for a Canterbury travel trip for 2 or 3 nights which seemed a bit pricey.

My friend booked with Transun and was very pleased with her trip and on another thread on here Esprit was sopposed to be very good too.

I would recommend going as near to Christmas as possible and go as far north as you can as the snow levels can vary. They have had a fairly mild winter so far in Finland.

It was absolutely fantastic and we are going to go back for longer next time as we would like to spend more time skiing.

You can get cheaper deals nearer to Christmas, but you run the risk of not getting what you want or nothing at all. Lapland trips are not cheap, but are very magical.

We went to the Snowy Wilderness Lodge in Pallas and it was fantastic. Booked with First Choice/Thomsons. The whole tip was fantastic, its all inclusive with excellent food and lots to do for the kids. The hotel is in the middle of a national park and therefore very authentic. Bit differnet from some of the places you could go to that are full of shops, bars and very tacky plastic Santa villages. The reps and Elves were first class.

Thanks Lucy88. Can i ask when you booked and how much you paid? I was thinking of booking around Sept. I am saving the money each month so will start looking around July - although i imagine prices may not have changed much by then.

Hi

I booked last April for December 18th - 21st. The week before Christmas is one of the most popular (and most expensive). It cost me £1600 for the 2 of us - had to pay adult price for my DS. If we'd have gone earlier in December it would have been cheaper and I could have had the option of a single parent deal. Its not quite as magical in early December and you also run the risk of there being no snow and you have to take the children out of school.

It was a lot of money, but it was worth it - my DS had a wonderful time. I personally would have prefered a 5* hotel in Abu Dhabi or Dubai for the same price lol.

Risk with booking late -- which I did is that availability is very patchy. Canterbury has nothing available out of London; other companies wanted us to go mid week and take the kids out of school.

I would look at dates very carefully and if you are not flexible go ahead and book sooner rather than later.
