Wondering about eurocamp or similar with pre-schooler

Anyone want to advise me? Ds is 3.5, we haven't been abroad yet. Was thinking eurocamp type thing might be good as he loves centre parcs and there would be plenty for him to do and lots of other kids about. Do the big sites get a bit lairy? Is it noisy at night?

Wouldn't mind doing something else but I think he might get a bit bored if it was just us in a villa...but maybe there's enough fun to be had meeting kids on the beach?

Depends entirely on the time of year and where you go.

Presumably you'll take advantage of not being in term time. Will be quiet therefore, wherever you are.

Eurocamp type facilities are great. Also VacanSoleil for cheaper places at same sites.

Thanks...think DH is vetoing eurocamp now so may rethink!

I've been away with my dcs to eurocamp the last 2 summers. my youngest was 3.4 this year. He loved it! there is so much for them to do, that it is much easier than being in a villa ime. If you can put up with being in a caravan and being surrounded by other people, then it is the ideal holiday.

We went to campsites in Italy and Spain and it meant that i got to see things that I liked too (I am not a campsite lover !), and it is so easy with the children.

why is DH vetoing? its a great holiday with kids and as people say will be quieter outside school hols. just be careful which site you pick - people on here will be happy to help.

my husband is a real 5 star man but has enjoyed loads of holidays with eurocamp etc. in a guite we missed the facilities and the kids got bored, even as toddlers

We've enjoyed both Eurocamp and Keycamp over the years - always in a tent.

Pre schoolers found lots of playmates and we could relax drinking wine around the bbq etc, etc. What's not to like?!!

Think DH is concerned it will turn us into a middle class cliche! It does sound good though from what people are saying so I may work on it...

when we first went about 15 years ago it was bit MC but its become a lot more mixed (or if the cars are anything to go by). I would say its pretty similar to centre parcs in terms of people.

I would be careful about which site and area you pick though. read the reviews and get help here. some have a lot more facilities and space than others.

I thought a gite was the middle class cliche? Or is that just because we can't afford one? In my experience the clientele on French campsites is very mixed. Shame if you don't get to go on a nice family holiday because of inverted snobbery. What's the non cliched alternative?

Pantofino · 01/01/2012 18:34

Looking at prices this year, I would look at gite complexes - there are some wonderful places with full mod cons - wifi, freeview, washing machines, play barns and some offer cooked meals and babysitting. You get maybe 3 or 4 familes - so good chance of same aged children, but don't have to fight for a sunbed. That being said, we have stayed with Keycamp/Canvas/Siblu ever since dd was 2 and always had a fabulous time. Siblu's Lac des Reves is a relatively quiet site with a lovely pool for little ones.
