12 days out in 12 months challenge

Has anyone done this before? I'm aiming to go out on a family day out/short break once a month all next year. DS will be 17 months in January so 2.4 next December and I really want to make the most of our time as a family.

Does anyone want to join in? They don't have to be expensive days out (far from it!) and if anyone has anything they want to post on this thread so we can pool ideas then great! I'm willing to travel a bit further out for some of them but haven't really got a clue what's around the rest of the country, which is why I started this thread.

So far, we have a few days in the Isle of Wight booked in September.

The best things I can think of to do near me (although we've done some already and ds is a bit too young for others) are:

Chester Zoo
Blue Planet Aquarium
Crocky Trail
Dewa Experience
Llangollen to see Thomas the Tank Engine (sp?)
West Kirby/Southport beach (or Rhyl beach but I've not been since I was little so don't know what it's like now)
Liverpool museums and Ferry crossing
Boat museum
Ice Creams in Parkgate (but not in midge season!)

I'm sure there's others I'll think of when I'm more awake!

That sounds like a good idea, once a month should be feasible for us. Would a visit to friends rather than an attraction count?

Magneto · 23/12/2011 20:12

Of course Smile I remember going to visit old work-friends of my mum's when I was 2 (although I don't know if I only remember because we have a home video of it Grin) and I had a great time! They had garden gnomes and I was convinced they were alive!

I thought of some more today;
Strawberry picking,
Delamere forest,

and at some point I'd love to go to London and do the museums and the Cornwall (and surrounding areas), but I'm thinking after the Olympics would be far less busy for London!

For me, the ultimate aim is to try not to feel like I haven't done anything "fun" all year!

Magneto from your list you must live quite close to me!

Manley mere is good (like Crocky trail but a little bit off the beaten track and with excellent cafe)
Applejacks Farm
Stockley Farm
Great Budworth ice cream Farm
Tatton Park
Watch aeroplanes take off at Manc airport viewpoint
Waterworld at Stoke

Further affield; bewilderwood is just lovely as is walking in the Lake district

My mum lives on the Wirral - I'll try to remember what we did with them there when they were small. They LOVED the Ferry and West Kirby beach....

There's a little farm at Thurstaston that's good for little ones.
And of course Thurstaston itself, though he might need some help to climb on the rocks!
And Linghams in Heswall does THE BEST milkshakes (but you may not want him enjoying something so chocolatey / sugary yet Xmas Wink

RottieAroundTheXmasTree · 26/12/2011 16:01

You live very close to me as as well judging from your list.

Delamere forest is walking distance from my house and where w walk the dogs.

I'm up for it as well, keep saying we need to get out more as a family. I have a 9 year old dd and a 7 year old ds.

SmileItsSeasonal · 27/12/2011 19:08

Well I definitely like the idea. Not least because once a month it will force us to get out of our rut and do something more interesting. Also we have season tickets to one our two local attractions, so they might be among the first visits!

Magneto · 30/12/2011 08:06

I didn't know there were so many mumsnetters this close to me Grin

Thomas is at Llangollen in February only (there are dates on the website) so that's February's day out sorted and dh will be pleased as he's the big Thomas fan! just need to remember to book tickets!
