There was a thread recently about this, and there were lots of recommendations for Canterbury Travel.

Think you will be exhausted on a day trip.

I'm not sure whether it was on here or the NCT Virtual Coffee list that someone was saying they came from over there and if people were interested would tell them how to put together a similar trip for a fraction of the cost of the organised trips.

You might have some luck in the archives.

Inghams ski do 1 week holidays to Lapland starting from around £340 pp, cheaper still for children. They are marketed as ski holidays but there is the opportunity to do all sorts of other activities such as reindeer and husky dog sledging. You can also visit father christmas and I believe even have dinner with him! It works out much cheaper than doing one of these specialized Santa trips.

I paid £2000 for a day trip with canterbury travel. TBH it was exhausting and you got no where near enough time there. Go for the 3 day trip - it'll cost you almost as much for the day trip anyway

thanx for all your comments. basically you confirmed what i thought, that one day is too short. my only other concern is the age of my youngest he will be 3 when we go. Is this too young? some travel agents say children over 2 can go but others dont recommend it for under 4's. My oldest will be 9 so this is really the last chance we have got b4 he stops believing (he nearly caught 'santa' delivering his presents this year, he was only pretending to be asleep) but we dont want to spend money taking our youngest if he wont enjoy it

We went on a Canterbury Tours one day trip in December. We did the trip where you leave the airport on a snow mobile sledge - fab. Then you're left at village and do everything else in your own time so it didn't feel rushed.

It was extortionately expensive but worth every penny. When the kids are looking glum I just say "Lapland" and get the biggest grin ever! I do think 3 is a bit young tho. Ours are 7 and 5, but we left the 1 year old with relations. If you took the three year old you may end up being a bit of a divided family with you hanging about with younger one while the others had all the fun!

Some people lost about an hour of the day by queuing for the bus to the airport in freezing cold weather (typical British). We sauntered over for the last coach having had loads more goes on the snow mobiles and sledges while they all froze!
