Any recommendations for a decent one and also what is a good place to go out in Bristol for the night and ones to avoid? Thanks.

Hotel du Vin is definitely lovely for both food and rooms
Drinks and dinner at the Severnshed (on the quays)is nice too
Browns is always good for dinner (in Clifton)
Clifton is very lovely anyway

HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN HOTEL DU VIN etc

oh, for eating on Whiteladies Road you want Quartier Vert, mostly organic all local all delicious.

Do you want to stay near Whiteladies Road? - there are some hotels near there but they're not the swankiest in town.

If you're clubbing - avoid anywhere in the centre/waterfront - ASBO central. What do you mean by go out? bars/clubs/?

BTW, stay at the HOTEL DU VIN

If Hotel Du Vin is a bit pricey (and you don't get breakfast in the room rate - it is fab apart from that though) I can recommend a really lovely little B&B in Clifton. Its run by Mrs MacDonald, and she is a v.good friend. She is voted as doing the best B&B breakfast in the West. Room rate is £65 a night as well - its pretty baby friendly as well - they have a 2.5 yr old living there. If you do book, say Louise D-J recommended it!
Pizza Provencale is crap by the way!

depends what ur gonna to do in bristol....... im form bristol, 24 years later i finally leave but spend loads of time there, there are gd hotels, which arent exspensive but do b craeful as some of them dont have car parking spaces for all the rooms! bets is look on the net for cheap deals, hotel du vin is v pricy and not worth it!

ok the Quays as some one said is called the Waterfront........... Browns resturants is at the top of park street and isnt clifton.

goign out in bristol, the locals ( incluiding myself) go out in the centre and on the waterfront, but for a romantic night, i would suggest going up whiteladies rd.............. as its a nice area and plenty of places to choose from.

The Marriott on College Green is nice, i've not eaten there though:

marriott.co.uk/Channels/globalSites/propertypage/UK/BRSRY

And i've not stayed there but I think the Avon Gorge Hotel is in a lovely location:

Byzantium near St Mary Redcliffe Church is really nice:

And Glasnost in Totterdown.

tortoiseshell · 03/02/2006 23:23

I really like Pizza Provencale

WestCountryLass · 09/02/2006 23:29

I had a nice meal the last time I went there too

WestCountryLass · 09/02/2006 23:31

Oh and I had one of the best meals I have ever had with excellent service at the most unlikeliest of places. I don't even knowm the name but it was the Italian restaurant opposite Temple Meads Station, next to the Peugeot garage. V bizarre, have driven past and not given it a second glance but food was absolutely gorgeous and had very nice ambience too
