We've booked a week in the holiday village mid January, but are feeling very unsure as to whether to go or not, given the situation out there at the moment. Wwyd?

Foreign office is saying there is a high risk of terrorist attacks towards tourists..

We wouldn't leave the complex but still feel it's a bit irresponsible with two young dc Confused

I wouldn't go to cario but I'd go to sharm el sheik. It's very secure, checkpoints, armed guards, etc.

At the risk of sounding like a complete mad woman I'm a bit worried that someone might try and bomb the hotel or something. Am I being a bit OTT?

If it was just me and dh I wouldn't be dithering at all

Where is the holiday village? Is it in Sharm?

Yes Sharm. There was a hotel bombed there a few years ago

Unless the FO advise not to travel your insurance won't pay out if you cancel now. I'm not sure it is any more volatile now than a few months ago.

We went last Easter, after the inital riots and travelled around independently with no problems.

If you are staying in a hotel complex in Sharm, I think you will be safe - they have security guards on the gates 24hours and are heavily staffed IME. Also Sharm is 100's of miles from Cairo.

The booming at sharm was quite a few years ago and they've increased security a lot since then.

I'd go, we went to hurghada in sept, and we're going to the holiday village in August can't wait!

A bombing could happen anywhere.

I'm going in 3 weeks Grin and noone is stopping me!

Jungle Aquapark Hotel in Hurghada here we come :)

IfYouSeeKaySanta · 11/12/2011 10:55

I went to Sharm in September and agree that security in and out of the resort and hotels is pretty tight. My parents were also there at the very height of the unrest last year and the tourists areas weren't affected at all.

The current situation wouldn't put me off going at all.

Fisharefriendsnotmincepies · 11/12/2011 11:23

Thanks so much everyone. Sharm here we come Grin

Have a good time.

The thing to reassure is that Sharm isn't a town as such - its purely a tourist resort. So everyone working, living there is connected to the tourist industry and they don't want anything to risk tourism and therefore their jobs. The majority of the workers are from other cities and their families remain in these cities and the men come to Sharm to work and send money home.

Ontheben jungle aqua park is fab we went in sep!
