going to south Africa with a 2 yo&4mo. The latter is fomrula fed.

How do you do it? It is an overnight flight.

Do I sterilise the bottles (maybe6/7?) and take cartons and powder. Petrified of delyas etc.

Anyone a clue whether able to take cartons through customs? Also reserve some at terminal 5 Boots?

And pack boxes of powder& cartons in suitcase-is that ok?

How bout coming back? Any idea whether SA also has fluid restrictions? Should I buy milk there?

Sorry for silly questions but last time was br feeding.

Cheers!

We just returned from Washington DC frm terminal 3 at Heathrow. We took one made up bottle through customs and took empty sterilised bottles. We then reserved 5 cartons at boots. There were also plenty of cartons on the shelves. I had to taste the milk I took through security so you would have to open any cartons that you wanted to take through.

I packed cartons and powder in the case with no problems.

With regards to coming back, I knew that the USA didn't sell aptimel so I took 3 premade bottles through. They had a special machine that checked it! You will always be allowed to take baby milk through so I wouldn't worry about that.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for that. Did you have to open all the cartons you picked up at boots? That means they are then not sterile anymore?

Do you think cartons in the main luggage would explode/come to harmin my main suitcase?

SA I don't think has the same fluid restrictions. I flew with a large bottle of Evian at any rate! Check with them though if you can find a number for the airport.

The cartons at airside boots won't need to be opened Smile you're through the checks by that point.

Btw I'd always do ready made rather than powder because you can't guarantee hot water and flight + baby with a gastro from dodgy powder = not fun

Of course baby with gastro is never fun but doubly bad on a flight do I would always recommend being hyper vigilant about making sure the water is above 70.

Cheers! Will reserve cartons& take powder as backup.

Also considering pre making bottles tho strictly not allowed.

Will they allow a flask t go through security in heathrow if it is for filling up with boiled water once through?
