hotel wise or b&b?

Hi - Depending on Budget, Lace Market Hotel is lovely or Harts Hotel is supposed to be nice, these are both 'boutique' hotels. Or there are lots of chain hotels in and nr city centre. I had a great meal recently in a restaurent called Shaws in Hockley (Modern European). There is a fab tapas bar called Bar de Nada on Broad St in Hockley (as you may gather Hockley is the main restaurant/bar area. Nice bars: Brownes, Bar 11 (both on Goosegate in Hockley), Bluu on Broadway in the Lace market.

If you have any specific likes/dislikes etc we can be more specific with suggestion - I'm just going for places I like at the moment. Let me know if you fancy a boogie too - DH is a DJ, so could recommend a club!

Would recommend Merchants in the Lace Market Hotel for food. My MIL stayed at the new Jury's Hotel recently as it had a good weekend rate. Would also recommend a restaurant/bar called the World's Service and a restaurant/bar called Geisha.

I love Nottingham, it's my home town, my dad still lives there and I like to go and visit as often as possible. Don't hit the pubs much any more but try to get to a good restaurant each time we go.

Hope you and your sister have a wicked time. If you are planning any pampering, the Holmes Place health club near the Jury's hotel has some lovely treatment rooms.

what is your kind of budget and preferred type of food and accomodation MummyPig?

Mandymac, how do you get out so much?

MummyPig · 04/01/2006 22:52

Hi there, thanks for all your recommendations already. I'm feeling excited about it already! I was looking at the Lace Market Hotel website and it looks great, would probably be the top end of our budget but might be worth it. I notice we would get free membership to the Holmes Place while we're there, which definitely appeals.

Food wise - I do enjoy good food and again, would want to go somewhere special as a treat. (I think this is the first time we've been away together as adults, plus my first time away from the kids for what feels like a terribly long time, and we are celebrating our birthdays too). I would probably go for something modern European, SE Asian, fusion, Mediterranean or inventive vegetarian food as opposed to burgers, steak and chips or pizza.

I am partial to a bit of boogieing although I haven't done any for a while and would have to strap down my breastfeeding boobs otherwise it could be painful !

thanks again and will check tomorrow to see if any more suggestions come up

You have the food world in your pocket if you stick around Hockley (intertwined with the Lace Market so you don't have to move far). If you wander around Hockley looking for food, keep looking up as many lovely restaurants are first floor. There is seriously far too many to mention and the diversity is, well, too diverse to mention really. I would personally avoid the Red Hot Buffet Shack though - its an eat all you can place and they concentrate on quantity rather than quality. Its ok if you like icecream and pick and mix for dessert (which I don't!)

(The only place I could have added would have been Bees Make Honey which was divine but in a less salubrious part of town. I say it was divine, as the chef was an alcoholic and sometimes never turned up - never a good business ethic )

okay girls, our night out is TOMORROW (Oops, I meant today - hope some of you check this before we go out.) I forgot to ask you about places to boogie. We like anything as long as it's not too hardcore. It doesn't have to be the most popular place - I'd rather have a bit of space to dance than be jammed in with lots of sweaty bodies. And are there any places that would still let us in wearing jeans and trainers but a smart top?

thanks again
