i don't know if this is a no win situation but we would like to go holiday somewhere ideally start of march 2012.

Must be

  • 25 degrees c min
  • suitable for a 2 year old
  • I would do long haul but only one long flight, so thailand would be a yes but oz probably a no.
  • Non malarial
  • not just a beach! DH isn't much of a sunbathing fan so it would be nice to have stuff to do, a bit of culture etc. I'm not thinking of dragging DS round museums but he likes to wander and at this age he's not old enough to say 'boring'!!
  • not a really popular tourist resort. I know our time will come but at the moment we are steering clear of disney, centerparcs, etc

We could go in april or may which might give some places time to heat up.

Thanks!!

We did Morocco when DD was 11 months old, and found it great. Stuck to a fairly established route - Casablanca, Meknes, Fes, Todra Gorge, Ait Ben Haddou, Marrakech, Essaouira.... was fab. I will say we're very experienced backpackers, and are also quite chilled out about travelling most places, but stayed in 2/3 level small hotels and found it absolutely fine. We mainly went by train/coach, and found almost everyone loved the baby. Of course, we had to be careful with food/water for her, but it was an amazing trip, and just sorry she won't remember it. March might be a wee bit chilly at night (we went in October, and you definitely needed a fleece), but we had warm, bright days, and there was definitely loads to see and do. If you were looking at basing yourself somewhere, I'd say Marrakech and Essaouira, as they're only about 2.5/3 hours (IIRC) apart. Business of the city, and the chilled out, beachy/fishing village feel too.
Oops - sorry this is longer than planned!

Hmm, wouldn't recommend Luxor with a 2 year old. They're hardly going to be interested in temples and tombs.... never mind the river dangers....

I would recommend Cuba too. Tho a long flight it's an amazing place, the people are great and they love kids. I'm sure if you go to Varadero beach you will find hotels with babysitting.
I wandered down Varadero beach and ended up at "Al's Place", Italian restaurant, had been Al Capone's holiday home Grin, the history there is amazing...
Virgin Atlantic to Cuba is great and certainly not falling apart.

If you want to stay closer to Europe flight-wise I guess Canary Islands. Gomera is great. Otherwise Cyprus or Crete.
