Driving through France in August

We are hoping to drive through France in August with 3 children aged 2 - 9. We will be driving from Calais to Annecy and can take our time, not wanting to do more than 3 or 4 hours' driving a day. Any suggestions on the best route and interesting places to stop? Suggestions on accommodation inAnnecy would also be very welcome.
Thank you x

ignore routes which insist on taking you through Paris! your best route looks like Arras, Reims, Troyes, Dijon, Chalon - I think all of those are interesting places.

We had a holiday near Chalon one year - beautiful countryside.

HTH a bit Smile

I am planning a similar trip next august too so watching with interest.

Either annecy or vendee for us.

Thanks for the tips. Beginning to wonder if it makes more sense taking the TGV and hiring a car out there to avoid traffic/parking etc? Thoughts??

Troyes and Chalon also nice - traffic agree tends to be worse on certain time (eg first weekend in August) . Parking varies like here (eg big tourist sites or centre of town will be harder to find and more expensive).

TGV/car hire would make sense in terms of stress levels (lack of Grin) but very much not in terms of cash.

Which crossing are you planning? Did you know you can use Tesco vouchers for Eurotunnel?

Your whole journey is less than 8 hours according to Michelin, most of that on motorways, & it's easy on French motorways to stop at an aire every couple of hours - you could do it in 1 day...estimated cost ?160 inc tolls

but if you really want to break it up, Troyes is almost exactly halfway
