All in one room in Vegas?

So we're off to Las Vegas next year for a good friend's wedding. They're getting married in the Mandalay Bay hotel and herein lies our problem...There will be me, DH, and 3 DCs (6,3 & 1). DH wants to stay in a "good hotel" (ie not cheapy motel / apartments) but we have a limited budget. From searching availability it seems we have a choice between a large room with 2 x queen beds and a cot in the MB hotel, or two adjoining rooms in a different hotel across the road (suites too expensive).

My questions are:

  1. will we be able to have a enjoyable week if we are all sleeping / living in the one room together?
  2. Are the DCs too young to do the adjoining rooms option?
  3. Should I try and find a mystery pot of cash and work on DH to stump up for a suite? (I'd feel guilty doing this as am a SAHM).

Any advice / experience would be very gratefully received as I really don't know what to choose! Confused

MB hotel defo, normal rooms have plenty of space for you all.you won't need a suite! There is so much to see and do, you will all just crash out when get back to the room. Do the rides at the top of the stratosphere hotel, Hoover damm and grand canyon, watch fountains at the belagio hotel, it's not at all tacky, clean and safe and hilarious!

Rooms in LV hotels are set up for four adults sharing, basically, as for conferences and weekends away mostly. I went to LV on a hen do last year and there were eight women in two adjoining rooms sharing 2 to a double bed (2 double beds in a room - this is the norm in LV). It was fine, I mean obviously there was make up everywhere but we were out of the room far more than in it.

I love LV, it is a fabulous place.

Five of you in one room with only one bathroom could become a bit cramped for the week. Mandalay Bay is not very child friendly re actually staying there (its very much a party based hotel) and the distance you walk can be vast. Standard rooms in LV consist of either a king or two queen (double beds). Think the DC will be too young for the hotel to entertain the two room option.

Have a look at the MGM Signature as its both a non smoking and non gambling facility so is generally more family friendly. Prices per night tend to be on the reasonable side.

how about looking at interconnecting room these will have an internal door so not like having to go out onto the corridor and into another room iyswim.

You can always assign 1 adult to each room.

We did this in another hotel in the US and DS was in the adjoining room - he loved it!

We kept the door open all night so he could just wander through...

Cancun hotel is fab - we had a suite for 4 with two bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen & two bathrooms for under £100 per night. It's a brill hotel and there was masses of room. Pool fab too.

Take a look at the Luxor hotel. It is next to Mandalay Bay but cheaper & often has deals on. The rooms we had there were large and adjoining did mean door between so you could even wedge it open all night I guess?

Thanks so much for your replies. Well done Notsure - I think I actually meant inter-connecting and not adjoining rooms. Anyone got any experience of the Luxor hotel as this is the one where we can get adjoining rooms?

Carocaro- thanks for the tips of what to do. I'm getting excited now Grin

Monkey - have you looked at Thehotel at Mandalay Bay its an all suite bit next to the Mandalay bay we stayed there with ds and had a bedroom which you could have 2 doubles in and a sitting room with massive sofa bed- was pretty sapcious and if I remember we got a pretty good deal - certainly as good as a room in some of the better hotels. You need to google it sepcifically it won't come up under Mandaly I don't think

I've also stayed in the Luxor - rooms in the tower are lovely. Rooms in the pyramid itself are sloping ceilings and feel a bit cramped tbh.

You should be able to get interconnecting rooms in pretty much any of the big hotels. On the hen do we stayed in Treasure Island, rate was very reasonable.

So DH has now changed his mind and says he'd rather have more room space and be further away from friends than be cramped in one room (hooray!). However, they've just announced a big fight the week we're going so hotel rooms are disappearing rapidly (nothing suitable left at THEHotel or the MGM Signature).

We're now looking at the Platinum Hotel & Spa which gets good reviews on Trip Advisor re being family friendly and we can get a one-bed suite for a reasonable price. Anyone been there? We might just book one night in the Mandalay Bay for the night of the wedding. Thanks for your help so far!

The Bellagio Hotel, totally delicious and fab pools out the back. The O Show on at the hotel is breathtaking, if it's still there!

What month are you going? We have found that in Aug the room rates are very reasonable. We have stayed at the Hilton, the one that looks like a castle(awful) and then 4 years ago we stayed at the Venetian, OMH...WOW..WOW...WOW. The rooms are all suites, no kitchens and are just amazingly out of this world. We had 2 huge double beds and a roll away, me, my husband and our triplets who were 9 at the time. The Phantom is on there and it was just the most fantastic experience. The position on the Strip is good, opposite The Mirage/Caesars Palace. We would be back like a shot, go and have fun!

triplets · 21/11/2011 22:16

It was the Excaliber...............tacky! We payed £85 a night at the Venetian but that was 4 years ago.

mumblechum1 · 21/11/2011 22:18

When ours were little we always got two interconnecting rooms, that way you have two bathrooms, you can leave the door propped open if you're worried about hearing them.

I wouldn't fancy staying in the same room with children, how are you supposed to shag?
