I know I should take enough bottles to last the 24+ hour flight, but does anyone have advice about what to take/ not to take and what is easiest?

don't understand .. if you have enough bottles for the 24 hour flight what are you asking about?

sorry .. am obviously dumb .. you'll have to spell it out please

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 31/12/2005 15:26

I wouldn't bother sterilising the bottles.

Take :

  • small changing bag to take to the toilets - you can restock it after a change. Big bag won't fit!
  • change of clothes for everyone
  • muslins for wiping, covering etc etc
  • small snacks
  • small toys (on string for easy retrieval)

Twiglett - I guess I just mean is there any way of sterilising the bottles on the flight so I don't have to take so many and carry around the dirty ones? Also - what do they give you to heat up the milk? Do they have completely boiled water on deck? Maybe I could take all the bottles half filled with water and then fill the other half with boiled.

You could take the premade cartons of milk
Steribottles are disposable
Try first as mine refused to use them!

snufflepuss · 31/12/2005 15:42

What about disposable bottles and cartons of formula ? The bottles are sterile and you can pour ready the ready mixed formula and put in the bin afterwards.

I would say that room temp milk should be fine .. I never heated any milk for either of mine .. will yours not take it at room temp? have you ever tried?

Marystoothyboychild · 31/12/2005 15:45

I would get baby used to drinking milk at room temperature before your trip. Then just fill enough bottles with the correct amount of boiled water before you go and add pre-measured powder to each bottle as you need it. No need for sterilising or warming!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I've never heard of Steri-bottles. Where do you get them?

Mum2OneAndBump · 31/12/2005 16:00

when we flew to aus 1st time - dd1 was about 8 months old. I took one bottle full of water for landing and take off and then just used the premixed cartons and steri bottles jettisoning used stuff as I went. Then bought a few bottles when I got to Aus and some sterilising tablets so I could cold water sterlise in sinks if need be. Made sure I had enough in carry on for trip out and enough in hold luggage for trip back.

mummyhill · 31/12/2005 22:31

Steribottles are available at boots, tescos, sainsburys and larger asda stores.

I must be honest though as soon as my children are crawling i stop sterelising as it seems pointless.
