School holidays in Europe and USA

Hi

Wondering if there is anyone out there who knows about school holiday dates in Europe and the USA?

The reason I ask, is because I want to take my son to Disney Florida next June and we are quite lucky that in our area we get 2 weeks holiday from school in June rather than 1. This means that when we normally go away in the 2nd week, places are generally a bit quieter. We went to Disneyland Paris 2 years ago and because we went away the 2nd week, we got a better price and the Parks were quieter.

I am hoping that the 2nd week in June will not be major school holidays across the US or in Europe, so that queue's won't be crazy in the parks at Disney.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The US has different summer holidays, depending on state. Here, we break up at the end of June. Other states break up at the start of June and go back in August.

So, in answer to the question, I dunno!! :D

We are going to florida in december outside of school hols. we were influenced by a book a mumsnetter told us about which is for disney with kids. in it it said the weeks when it was less busy and since for various reasons this was our main criteria we chose these weeks. i suggest you google american school holidays but be aware that in June disney will be mega busy. best times for it is either december or January/Feb.

Cheers - Thecatinthehairnet - just assumed that is was the same as the UK, where hols are quite standard. Thanks for letting me know.

Mummymeister - I'll get hold of a Guide to Disney and take a look. I'm not one for taking my DS on holiday in term-time (not something I personally agree with), but I appreciate your advice.

The just google comment was a bit mean, I've googled the same question and unless you understand the way the USA schools system, which I don't, what comes back is pretty confusing.
If you were an American would you realise that the answer is some obscure page of the local county ( but not district) council web site?

We went to Florida at the end of August this year, and its wasn't too bad at all. The Florida schools were all going back as we got there. I'd suggest looking at the Unofficial guide and their website, but you would do best to go for longer than a week.

BTW one county near Orlando was already back when we arrived, another went back the first Monday and the others went back on our second Monday. That is a lot of variation in quite a small area.

Mummymeister, it's nonsense it's quiet in February. You have the European half terms and a whole section of the USA wanting to escape the cold in winter break. We went one Feb and had one nice week and one week which was Hell on Earth!!

I think you'll be pretty safe with early June. I am in New York, here the schools finish late June (public) or second week (private), but most people tend to go to Disney at Spring Break which varies from mid-March to the week after Easter.

Have a look at this webpage which sets out the weeks that are likely to be busy/quiet.

Plenty of schools in the US (a lot of Southern states) finish for summer break in late May/early June so it might be crowded. I would think that Easter break and the weeks of Christmas and Thanksgiving would be the worst time to go to WDW.

mummytime · 09/11/2011 10:21

Having done Christmas and Thanksgiving, they were both fine. The key thing is in the UK we get a lot more holiday than American's so we take longer vacations. Most Americans will only be there for a few days. So if you avoid Christmas Day or Thanksgiving, you may find it is not that busy.

However I would also look at when the new Fantasyland expansion is opening, as that would be worth seeing.
