Baggage allowance - is 20kg enough for family of 4..?

'cos it's bloody expensive so I'm hoping 1 x 20kg allowance will do? We travel fairly light and will be going to Spain in the Spring, so hopefully t-shirts, shorts, crocs, rather than big boots and jeans!

It's our first holiday abroad since having the children - 11 years and counting - so I have NO CLUE, but just booked for 1 suitcase to keep the costs down...

We did Spain last spring on 20kg (10 days) but husband packs incredibly lightly (ie 3 outfits which get washed) and I didn't have enough clothes to be honest. We all had a rucksack each too (kids included). It was tight and did cause a bit of stress to be honest so I would go for 40 kg to be on the safe side. That said if you are happy to be washing clothes through and it is shorts and t shirts weather you may get away with it.

I just asked DH if this was possible and he collapsed in a heap of laughter.

I take 18kg if I am away for two nights. Our last holiday we had 65kg between three of us.

I dream of being someone who travels with a spare pair of pants and a toothbrush Smile

I thought you get 15kg or 20kg each? Am I reading things wrong?

I am hard pushed to get it under 20kgs for just me so there is no way all 4 of us could use that little amount!

When we went for 2 weeks in the summer we had 60kg plus hand luggage. We just about managed with 40kg going to Turkey for a week in October but had to use all our hand luggage allowance on the way back, lucky we were with easyjet so there is no weight limit on the hand luggage.

Also remember that the suitcase probably weighs about 4kg before you even put anything in it so you would be only be able to take 4kg each....

And if you buy anything when you are there you would have to allow for that on the way back.

I would say book the extra 20kg. Personally we would be struggling with that though Shock

well today's the day - we're off this afternoon and I've packed the suitcase and ........

With just a few more things to go in we're only at 13kg! what do you people pack?! Grin

We've got a small rucksack each and that's got overnight clothes in and crocs but we've got room to spare for airport purchases and we're good to go!

Hugely, massively excited - just have to cope with lack of petrol and a general strike in Spain... Hmm Grin
