Looking for good toddler entertainment in the Cheddar area of Somerset for our break there between now and New Year's day. Any info gratefully received...

Hmmmm, well there is the caves:

and Wookey Hole:

Weston Super Mud is not far and there is a Helicopter Museum there. There's also the West Somerset Railway too near Minehead.

There's Animal Farm in Berrow which is good and OK if it rains as there's stuff indoors, but wellies essential for outside. Swimming in Weston-super-Mud at the sports centre (toddler pool), a Wacky Warehouse with a pub (Bucket & Spade) attached on the outskirts of Weston. The pier in Weston is superbly tacky and holds toddlers' attention but I don't know if it's open in the winter. My DD completely freaked out in the Wookey Hole caves so I'm not going to recommend that. A good pub to eat in is the Red Cow in Brent Knoll which has a nice little playground nearby. The teddy bear shop in Cheddar Gorge is sweet as is the toy shop in Wedmore. Afternoon tea at Banwell castle if it's open as there are chicken, turkey & peacocks to watch out in the garden. I think I'd go into Bristol and have a wander round the Explore@Bristol place on the waterfront or a trip to the Zoo.

excellent place for a days family fun

How old's the toddler? Cheddar is v beautiful as you drive down but tbh I think the shops and stuff at the bottom are horrible and tacky.

peckarollover · 27/12/2005 12:12

We went there recently and there were lots of poundland type shops. Quite bizarre. The teddy shop is quite cute though.

There are two toddlers aged 17 and 20 months. I think we can take them part of the way through the caves and they'll certainly like the teddy shop. Only there for a few days so hopefully we'll find stuff to entertain us - would like to visit Wells, it looks lovely.
