My suprise pressie from DH was a trip to see James Blunt (love him) at the Manchester Apollo in February.

Im looking for a hotel for 2 nights (thurs and fri) can anyone recommend somewhere nice as we very rarely get to go away whilst not breaking the bank?

Freshstart I have stayed at the Britannia and it is OK, for a cheap and cheerful place. The decor is '70s indian restaurant chic' But the beds seemed comfy and OK. It is very central. About £40 - £60 a night

Also stayed in the Travel Inn which is identikit to all others.

there are quite a few cheaper hotels that were built for commonwealth games. Jurys Inn is very central.

~Im still struggling with this!

The concert is no longer happening but we still want to go away.

My Grandparents live in Glossop and we want to meet up with them on the Sunday so needs to be accessible to there fairly easily.

Not bothered about it being Manchester city centre.

Any ideas?

The Lowry is meant to be very nice - haven't been myself (although am due to soon!) Apparently has very luxurious bathrooms...

The Lowry

Mo2 · 20/02/2006 22:19

Meant to add, it may also be worth trying www.laterooms.com and seeing what's on offer - have often found good deals at luxury hotels there...

freshstart · 20/02/2006 22:22

The lowry is a bit over budget at 350

thanks though, it does look lovely

Mo2 · 20/02/2006 22:25

Just had a look on Laterooms for you, and The Lowry is discounted to £120 / £140 per night - is that any better???

definitely have a look there - there are some bargains now that you are this close to the date!

Hi Freshstart. I've stayed at The Lowry, Alias Rosetti, the Palace and The Radisson Edwardian.

Lowry is amazing but very conteporary, Rad Ed is quite new but a bit more traditional. Alias is lovely and very boutiqey (is that a word?) Palace is not great and has no Spa.

HotAsHell · 20/02/2006 22:28

Freshstart

The Norton Grange is an ok hotel but the food is crap and as its in Rochdale there is not alot to do of an evening, (taxi to manchester is around £20), If i were you i would give this one a miss, i hope this helps

freshstart · 21/02/2006 07:32

HotasHell, yes we have now struck that one off!

I really fancied the Alias Rosetti but it is full on Saturday.

Im tempted to just book a travelodge and get new shoes with the difference lol

Sick of looking
