Santa's Grottos in Central London

I'm going to try to take dd in the next couple of days. I know there's a sort of Santa walkabout at Hamley's but I'd really love to take her to a proper Grotto. Harrod's is meant to be good - has anyone tried it? I've heard they have long waiting times and as dd's only 3 I'm not sure she'd handle that ... I'm in SE London so Knightsbridge is also a bit of a pain to get to.

TIA

We are taking the boys to chilly Dartford to see Santa in the Co-Op there! Apparently, a really great grotto with a little ride they go on where they "fly" through the snow to see him,(a film on the wall I think!).My friend has been and said it was lovely!

Oh Gawd, how would I get THERE, drop?!!

You could get a train from your nearest station to Dartford but I would rather you let me try it out first so as you won't be disappointed.

Hi Kleist! I took DS to harrods. Long ques, yes, but free bottles of water, gingerbread men and jelly lollies. Also entertainment from Santas staff. Santa himself was great too. Photos cost a bomb, but I brought one for DP to give him for xmas from DS. He loves everything about xmAS so I'm hoping he'll be well chuffed.

Hi Floss . Well, I'd planned on Harrods but I'm going to be there around 3pm and they said this week that's a 2.5 hour wait . Even with entertainment I'm not sure dd would handle that.

Isnt there something on at Earls court at the moment, Santa land or something like that? A bit of a trek from Se London though.

kleist · 12/12/2005 22:26

Yes, it's also a whole day kind of thing, and VERY expensive!

The woman on the phone there said I should get there for 5pm and I might only have an hour to wait. But dd's only 3 and it's a good hour and a half for us to get home afterwards so I probably wouldn't be back until 8.30pm by the time we'd been in and seen the big fella. Not sure what to do really ...
