i would take steribottles instead... so forget the sterilising stuff

forget the pampers change mats.. just use a muslin if necessary

moondog · 08/12/2005 22:32

Bloody hell.
You'll not be able to move!!

acnebride · 08/12/2005 22:33

bottle brush?

muslins excellent for playing peekaboo (tip from someone else on here) do they do that at 3 mo, I can't remember??

poss small bottle of evian in case you think she's thirsty rather than hungry at some point?

SueW · 08/12/2005 22:34

Sounds about what I took for 36 hours travelling UK to NZ bar the bottles/formula/sterilising stuff since I was breastfeeding and DD was old enough to take some solids. Oh and pampers mats since they didn't exist back then!

followthestarlover · 08/12/2005 22:35

will you really need 8 things of formula if she is mixed fed? 8? for one day?

morocco · 08/12/2005 22:38

sounds pretty comprehensive but I'd take a good book too - never know your luck!
is the the fairy liquid and steriliser stuff necessary? maybe disposable bottles/those bottle liner things (sorry, never used them, just saw them in shops)
a noisy toy for distractions if crying a lot?
enjoy the holiday!

NannyL · 09/12/2005 00:19

you could always calpol sachets that take up much less room!

Agree get steri bottles and chuck em, MUCH less hassel!

Aby little toys / rattles for little one?

Which airline(s)? I have been to Australia (twice), India, Singapore and Thailand with DS (now 14mts). Did the first big trip when he was 3mts but he was fully b/fed. I think you've got pretty much everything. I had a reusable portable change mat (they are pretty easy to get and cheap) or just wipe down the change table with a baby wipe and put a muslin under baby's head. Nappy rash cream? Flannel? Syringe for the calpol/medised is easier than spoon (and you would want to sterilise those if you used them before using again). Plastic bag(s) for wet/dirty items. To cut your pre-made formula load, you could consider stick packs of formula as a back up (if they are available in your brand - Sma Gold do them) and making up bottles with Evian you get from the crew or buy in the airport/hotel.

BTW, sky cots are not that comfortable or that big. So we took the pram fleece on board and used that to pad it. I wouldn't bother with the grobag or sheet - just use the airline blankets. The grobag will probably hang out the end and just get in the way. Also, planes are usually pretty hot (unless they are freezing cold ... sorry, that's not much help!) BA have these fantastic car chair rocker things as well as sky cots.

Flying SAA to South Africa. I posted previously re coping with bottles and from suggestions tried steribottles. Unfortunately dd is very fussy re bottles and wouldnt take them. I know babies will take most things when starving but dont really want to go there!
Agree 8 formula is over cautious. Just thinking I may have to bottlefeed in car ( Have 3 hour drive too) - if we stop to bf trip just gets longer.
Can you bf on takeoff landing or do they have to be in sky cot/ basinette?
Thanks for tips!

i would ring the airline about bf during take off, three years ago i bf ds2 on take off and landing. that was on a british airways flight, so different airlines may have different rules regardingsecuring babies during take off, so i would just give them a ring and check it out.

littledonkeyrach · 09/12/2005 11:48

During t/o they are usually strapped to you whilst you are buckled up.

teabags · 09/12/2005 12:52

Check with your airline.I am flying with Cathay Pacific soon.......they provide nappies, wipes etc.

So much stuff for a three month old???

For longh haul flights when DS was a baby I used to carry:

-A change of clothes for him and another one for me

  • Several bibs (well, I actually stuck on him a vest all the flight long as it saved me from changing his clothes several times)
  • 2 self sterilising botles (from mothercare) I used to wash them at the airports and then ask at one of the restaurants if they could pop them in the microwave for a couple of minutes. -forget about ready made formula it's heavy and it always get spilled, take with you a big bottle of water and just ask the crew to put a 1/3 of hot water in it once you have put the water in them) Mothercare also sells a formula powder contianer where you can keep the measured formula) -All that pampers are unavoidable -Just one change mat -Calpol OR MEdised (both are paracetamol)
  • A small blanket is useful for stop overs as you can place it on the floor for baby to lay down out of the pushchair
jacobsmummy · 09/12/2005 16:00

Sorry, but personally, I don't think you should be putting your baby into hand luggage.

jacobsmummy · 09/12/2005 16:01
Wink
