Suffolk, near Southwold. What to see and do; DSs, 10 and 12, will walk!

We are staying in a cottage near Halesworth and Southwold for a week.

What would you recommend as must sees/must do's? We are NT members.

We are thinking Southwold itself, Dunwich, Aldeburgh, Orford Ness, Lavenham, Bury St Edmunds, Ickworth House.

Can you suggest whether these are all 'good', where you'd recommend to walk (say 3-6 miles duration), and any other advice, please!

A trip down to Sutton Hoo near Woodbridge.
Crabbing (especially at Walberswick).
I'm quite a believer in permitting one tacky day ... so go up to Lowestoft or Great Yarmouth, though I much prefer the amusements on the pier at Southwold.
You aren't too far from the Broads, so hiring a boat for the day/half day is a possibility.
Hiring bikes and exploring Rendlesham Forest

Boating on the mere at Thorpeness
Fish and chips at Aldeburgh (best fish and chips in the world):eat on beach if possible
Crapping at Walberswick
Funny games and amusements at Southwold Pier
Orford Castle and harbour plus trip Pump bakery in Orford
Woodbridge Tide Mill
Minsmere RSPB
Walk from Iken to Snape Maltings and back:though the reeds and mostly flat.
Breasingham Gardens ( steam trains)

If rainy Norwich Castle Museum is very good

The very best fish and chips in the entire world are to be found in the hut on Dunwich beach.

If you like walking, I'd recommend getting the pathfinder book of Suffolk walks. It features pretty much all the places mentioned and more, and the one's we did from it were great. (don't forget long trousers though, as you will find a lot of nettles this time of year!)
