Devonians- I need you - travelling to Honiton from M5 please....

Dear Devonians

Okay- further to my previous query about M5 or A303, the holiday company has sent directions. These say leave M5 at Junction 25 and follow A something or other to Ilminster.

Now, looking at my map it APPEARS that there is a junction 28 on M5, with a direct road to Honiton, but what is unclear is whether this junction is for exiting M5 or if it goes underneath it.

I would rather carry on the motorway than scramble around on A/B roads after junction 25- but is this possible?

I drive to/from Plymouth and London regularly. Coming from Plymouth you leave the M5 at J29 to get the A30 to Honiton. The A30 is a dual carriageway and you won't get caught behind a tractor like you might if you join the A303 (via J25) as suggested in the directions you received. You can leave the M5 at J28 southbound but I don't know what the road (A373) is like.

Jn 29 and A30 to Honiton.

Just be sure to LEAVE the A30 at honiton, there are two junctions, one each end of town. A30 does not go "through" Honiton.

oh help! So I take the first one? is it tricky to do that? I am going to a place on the south east side of Honiton, and need to take the road to Lyme Regis I think- maps seem to say go up High St in Honiton...

Coming from the north (Bristol end) why can't I leave the M5 at junction 28 and take the A385(is that it?)

). If you need to get on the A35 ( Lyme Regis road from Honiton) take the A30 exit at East end of town ( 2nd one coming from Exeter, signed for Lyme etc) to Avoid the high st .

A385- you don;t mean A385 that's down by Totnes
A383 is Newton Abbot- you don;t mean that one either....

A373 from Jn 28- Honiton is Ok, bit smaller and slower than A30 which is duel carriage way to Honiton from Exeter. I use either for work but the Duel carriage way is faster if I'm in vehicle that does over 50mph and I'm not buying the fuel...

I'm coming from north of London, via M25, M4 and M5, and going to a village just south east of Honiton.

Are you SURE you want to this on M4 and M5?

M way adds 30 miles.

Definitely take the second exit into Honiton... then you miss having to go right through the town =].
Much easier.

I would also say come off the Motorway at Exeter and use the A30.

Ah also agree with UniS though.
When visiting family in MK we always take the sort of way she suggested.
No motorways.
