Help Me Choose an Easter Holiday?

We have three weeks (I think?) off at Easter. We must go away (building work).

All our holidays for the first three years have been go-to-Canada-see-friends-and-family holidays. Before that, we went to Cyprus and Majorca. Liked Cyprus, didn't like Majorca.

Things that matter:

  • DS1 will be 4.5, DS2 will be 1.5. Both are really really sociable, so somewhere full of kids is maybe good.
  • I think we want a flat. Maybe three bedrooms? Two at least.
  • We want to be able to eat well. Cyprus was good for this.
  • My French is good.
  • We'd rather not travel far.
  • We'd rather not need to drive on holiday. I don't think.
  • 20-25C is good. Over 30C is bad.

So, any suggestions? I'm tempted by the idea of Centerparcs in France, as that would be probably not too much work? Or maybe somewhere in southern France, with a beach? Or maybe Corsica?

Or should we just go back to Cyprus?

If it was me, I'd probably go for something like keycamp in the s of france. There are also French versions of centreparks (pierre et vacances) which might suit. But Cyprus I'm sure would be warmer at Easter.
What was the winning formula in cyprus that was missing in majorca?

elliott · 24/11/2005 12:55

Or I might pick somewhere like Crete or Turkey if I could find the right kind of accommodation.

NotQuiteCockney · 24/11/2005 12:59

I don't think we'd do Turkey. We tend to just do first world type places. Crete could be tempting.

Majorca vs Cyprus: Majorca was out of season, and too cold and wet. The food was really greasy and horrible, I got sick. Cyprus had better food (excellent food, really), and it was warm enough to go in the Med, a bit.

Corsica?

Frizbe · 24/11/2005 13:00

Good time of year to do the Florida thing, no hurricanes, steady 80 degrees, parks not too packed (bar the one week the USA are off as well)

CountessDracula · 24/11/2005 13:01

Crete is nice as long as you steer clear of the kiss me quick bit

Do you want childcare?

CountessDracula · 24/11/2005 13:04

we went to Lefkas (greece) recently
Food surprisingly good
Very easy to travel to

NotQuiteCockney · 24/11/2005 13:06

Oh, no, I don't go to the US. And I'd rather not do longhaul. We're doing London->Winnipeg->Toronto->Montreal->London in July/August. So short flights only now. Maybe train, even?

Childcare could be nice, but not required, I think? Hmm, must talk to DH about all this.

Corsica is tempting - are there direct flights now?

I expected the food to be rubbish in Cyprus, and found it absolutely lovely. Well, the Russian food wasn't great, but I suspect Russian food is like that generally.

info on the place in Lefkas

NotQuiteCockney · 24/11/2005 13:13

That sounds like the sort of thing!

Thinking about it, a half-day of childcare, now and then, wouldn't go amiss. Do these sorts of places take care of 1.5-year-olds as well as bigger kids? DS2 will go off with everyone, particularly if he's taken somewhere busy and full of kids.
