Soft Play Centres - too pricey?

Hallo everyone! I'm new here - I've just heard that Activity World in Bushey is being taken over by Topsy Turvy World (of Brent Cross, London). There will be a definite upturn in quality, but TTW seems a little pricey to me - and what about these new foods? Seems a little silly for kids to have salmon teriyaki etc....

What does everyone think?

hmmm - don't like this Royalty member thing, charging adults, charging for offpeak. The £3.95 off peak charge is a little steep, but not outlandish. Agree it's too dear.

OK it is a little expensive, but looking at other threads on what people WANT from a soft play centre, it seems like they have got some things right. A good cup of tea/coffee, nice magazines, comfy seating, good food that isn't all chips.

If it manages all that and doesn't smell of wee than it could be worth it

ALso it depends whether 'Royalty memebership' costs anything, we get reward cards from our local places that mean a free cuppa every few visits

I've been to TTW and was really impressed--brand new, well-maintained facilities, with lots for the children to do, and pleasant, motivated staff. DS had a great time and we paid £4.50 and played for 3 hrs which is only 50p more than my local, much scruffier, indoor playcentre. We had potato wedges which tasted like they were made from real spuds in a real oven. And (always a plus) the coffee was very good too. Recommended.

I think it sounds great. I go to Kidzone in Berkhamsted but the food is crap and it really puts me off going. It's a refreshing change to find somewhere where the menu doesn't just consist of Nuggets & chips etc. The activities sound good too.

I think the royalty scheme is a paid membership.

Activity World has needed a spruce-up for some time, but I just don't know whether kids will eat these things. And new things always fade over time....

Our loccal soft play centre charges £3.50 per child and the food is realy cheep and simple.

Can tell it's 'down south'! our local soft play centre does fantastic cups of tea - in mugs, proper toast cut from the loaf and £2.50 for 2 hours! Fab

Apologies if I'm wrong but isn't this just a sneaky advert?

atomic · 23/11/2005 14:03

Oh no, it's not - I'm doing some research for an article on the whole thing, and need some opinions! I'm not entirely convinced by it all.....

TBH the prices don't seem too bad if it is clean, well maintained, good food etc.
A new play centre has just opened near me, I haven't been yet but a friend went and it cost her £6.50!!! for her 2 year old and £2.50!!! for each adult which I couldn't believe. Apparently it has the usual play centre stuff plus a cart track, climbing wall, trampoline area and computer/internet area etc for parents, but still can't imagine too many people paying £9 to go there.

snowydelight · 11/12/2005 14:34

If you're doing an article shouldn't you go through the "members of the press" routine? Looks like an ad/owner looking for feedback question to me too. Be honest about it!

cowmad · 12/12/2005 19:27

ooo you soo know your advertising atomic or is it ttw!!!! you lot in the south play soo dirty..just pay for your adverts!!!
