Anyone been to / know anyone who has been to Chia Laguna in Sardegna? We are thinking of booking for last 2 weeks in August but aren't sure whether to go for the 5* hotel or the village which they recommend for families. Our dd is 3yo.

Many TIA.

Hi there, we have stayed in Chia Village with DS when he was 3.

We paid for a family room, in reality it was two adjoining rooms, but the ones with a bedroom upstairs looked nicer. If you want this sort of room they will claim it can't be done unless there are 4 of you, but provided you pay as if there were 4 then you are ok.

We ate at the Chia Laguna and it looked like a very classy hotel, most families with young children would probably stay in the Chia Village though as the Laguna seemed more adult oriented.

We really enjoyed the hotel, they have a train/bus to the beach and the quality of the half board food is good, if you do get a chance then go to La Luna one evening. The beach is beautiful and if you don't take the first two rows of sun loungers, then they are free plus towels and parasols.

The childrens club is not the most sophisticated and we found it a bit scary that they wanted to whisk DS off to the beach without really letting us know, having any first aid equipment and just very relaxed about the whole safety element of it, Italian parents seemed less bothered. However it is right beside the childrens pool so DH and I would stay there and then watch out if they appeared to be moving anywhere and take DS back again. In the evening they doubled up as entertainers in the not terribly sophisticated evening entertainment.
There isn't a huge amount to do in the area, so two weeks might feel like a long time. Also lunch and drinks are expensive.

All in all we had a great time, and would love to go back, but its too expensive for us in the school holidays.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Not in august just due to the fact that Sardinia would be absolutely heaving, hot and very expensive. I would avoid anytime in august personally. We've been twice in June and would recommend the resort. The connecting rooms are more expensive than the mezzanine room but we have 2 dcs of 4 & 7 and prefer to shut the interconnecting door to the children rather than have an open plan arrangement! You cannot beat the location on chia beach - the sand is sublime and this is what you are really paying for. Facilities wise, the sani resort in Greece is better by comparison but chia beach is the better location by a long way! Plus, it's cheaper than the forte village 10 mins up the road. I repeat, I wouldn't choose to go in august though! Hth

Thanks very much. Both really helpful. We went to Sani last year in September. Dd loved it and I quite liked it but had definitely had enough after 2 weeks! We are going to a wedding in Calabria at the end of August so need to go before / after that. We went to Sardegna a few years ago pre dd in Sept and weather wasn't reliable. Is your main reason for not going in August the holiday crowds or the heat?

Thanks again. I really appreciate your replies.

Hi mm when we went to Chia Village it was 5th - 12th Sep and weather was very much on the turn, some days it was a little too cold to sit by the pool, so I would imagine that the last week of August might be ok although I do understand it is very hot in peak season.

Hi everyone, soo late to the game with this one, but we just wanted to book our holiday for Easter 2014 at the Chia Laguna Resort where we stayed two years ago.

Turns out that the hotel (Parco Terre Chia) I was looking for is now independent and not actually part of the resort anymore. They've got discounted early bird and family offers for anyone who's interested!

Will let you know how it was :)
