Legoland Windsor..... again.

I have searched the archives, but still am not sure about a couple of things.

We are planning a trip to Legoland for a weekday at the beginning of July before the schools in england stop for the summer holidays.

DS1 is 5.7yo and crazy about Lego and not so crazy about going on any of the rides. He has looked at the interactive map and it's things like the creation centre, digger challenge, adventure golf, miniland etc that he is really excited about.

I need to know about the Lego Creation Centre. Is there a lot to do in there? I have visions of him spending half the day in there and not getting round to doing half the stuff he wants to.

We are going to be using tesco vouchers and I have enough to go twice. Is it worth it? Bearing in mind he could probably spend an hour running about the Pirate ship play park thing....

And how busy is it likely to be on a weekday during term time?

i think if you are not that interested in the rides then it would be a waste of money, sorry

i was really, really disappoiinted at the lack of actual stuff to do with lego there tbh!

it's mainly a theme park, with the rides made to look like lego.

DUSTIN · 23/05/2011 21:50

Not been but interested to find out as my DS wants to go also.

RainbowShite · 23/05/2011 21:51

It's a good idea to go in term time, and there's enough there to fill two days.

cornsilks · 23/05/2011 21:54

there is lots to do apart from the rides - my ds's spent ages in the water bit when they were small. Also the rides aren't all 'rides' - there is a train and the driving school for instance. There's also a show which is great and a great playhouse (ratrun?) which my ds's spent ages in. Also a cinema thingy. It is really quiet out of term-time unless it's an inset day. I would go for 2 days.

mawbroon · 23/05/2011 22:20

Thanks everyone

cornsilks, yes it's that kind of stuff he wants to do. The fire academy, the L-drivers (he's not old enough for the driving school). DS2 will need a bit of a crawl around too, so thought the duplo playtown might be good for him.

What's the Creation Centre like? We have been housebound today because of the storms, and ds1 sat for most of the day at the kitchen table playing with his lego. He is really obsessed with it. It said on the website that there were earthquake tables and model builders there. Is this all the time, or only on special days?

how do i find out when local inset days are btw?

We were a bit disappointed in the Creation Centre, tbh. There were only about 3 other families in the bit we went in, the task was to build a car to race on a speed ramp and there weren't enough wheels to go round. And the speed measuring device didn't work. I'd had visions of vast heaps of all kinds of Lego, but actually we've got more at home!

Loved the rest of the park, though, and ended up going back again the next day.

troublebum · 23/05/2011 23:04

We go alot, and my kids love it, great "small rides" for younger kids, it will be fairly quiet midweek, mine never get bored of it but then we only live up the road, so sometimes just nip in for picnic and a couple of rides then home again, but I would reccommend.

mawbroon · 23/05/2011 23:23

Oh that does sound a bit rubbish franticbanana. Was this recently?

That sounds ideal troublebum. We do similar here with the zoo as we have membership.

I just want to avoid having to hurry him along from having fun so that we can fit everything in that he wants to do. He likes to take his time and get as much out of things as he possibly can.

Glad to see that some of you are saying that there's enough for 2 days before I blow all my Tesco vouchers!!

Again we are locals who go regularly. Early July there are alot of year 6 school trips at the park, but they mostly leave at 3pm. So whilst normally I arrive at 15mins before opening time to walk fast to the furthest corner of the park. In early July I would arrive a little later and aim to stay till the very last moment.
We always eat lunch whilst watching the pirates of skeleton bay show.

FranticBanana · 24/05/2011 18:48

Fairly recently, mawbroon, it was last summer. We absolutely loved Legoland and are planning to go back this year some time, but I wouldn't make the effort just for the creative bit. There are lots of rides suitable for small people though, and ds (2) loved just following the trains round all the various mini-land set ups. The Pirates show was good as well. Wish we were close enough to nip in for lunch!

PatriciaHolm · 26/05/2011 22:47

IMHO, creation centre is a bit pants. It really is just a few tables of lego.

That said, there is a lot there anyway. Miniland is great; my DS (5) could spend hours running around following the trains there!

He loves Fire academy and L drivers too, also the boating ride (he's not that interested in coasters etc, sounds similar to your DS!) He LOVES Legoland though so hopefully yours will too (mine has been a number of times - we have Merlin passes - and still nags to go all the time!)
