We are going to a siblu holiday in france (la vendee) over half term- what should we bring to make our trip extra great?

In my experience the mobiles are very well equipped. My top tip is to pack clothes etc in those big reusable shopping bags a la Ikea as storage space is limited and these fold down to nothing. If you are driving of course....

I normally take coffee filters, salt and pepper, extra dish cloths, w up liquid, bin bags etc. But of course you can buy all these things there.

I also take dd's scooter and the paddling pool.

ChippyMinton · 22/05/2011 11:29

everything portofino said, plus
bath towels
bath mat
beach towels
tea towels
bedding (unless you are hiring it)
portable dvd player
plug converters - siblu possibly have english style sockets though
clothes pegs
decent sharp knife
teabags
favourite cereals

Use your reusable shopping bags at the supermarket. Are you going to St Jean de Monts? There are a couple of good supermarkets a short drive from the sites.

Siblu are great in my experience. As the mobiles are personally owned they tend to be on larger plots. Dd loves the kids club.

ChippyMinton · 22/05/2011 15:41

The beach is lovely. My DC like to hire the bicycle car thingys (what are they called?) and go along the prom.
How old are your DC? Puy du Fou is a great day out for, say, the over 6s.
St Gilles Croix de Vie is a nice town to go in the evening.

LemonEmmaP · 22/05/2011 15:46

When we went to Siblu, all the knives were 'steak' knives - really sharp and serrated. Useless for buttering toast and a bit lethal in young hands. So I would suggest you pack a few 'family friendly' knives! But otherwise, the mobile home was very well kitted out.

They are under 4, which is good from the perspective that they have no expectations snd are easily amused!

I know the area is fairly touristy, can i assume it is child friendly? I must sound like such afb idiot, but we have never taken the kids anywhere apart from travelling to see farflung family

Are a as child friendly as anywhere else imho. Check what is open when though as the attractions and local supermarkets tend to follow French holiday periods and may only be open weekends or a few days each week. Puy du Fou is great but I'd say your dc are too young to appreciate it and it is a reasonable drive away. Several high rope type places in St Jean de Monts, or close by, with lower, shorter versions for young kids. Forests great for walks and picnics. Bike hire , including 4 seaters , which can go along the promenade. Nice beach and waterparks if warm enough. Most restaurants do a kids menu but limited to nuggets, burger etc and chips.

They will mostly eat anything if the spirit takes them, or not as the case may be. They are fairly well behaved, so should be ok. They are mostly fine at home when we take them out.

We will most likely do a lot of outdoors stuff, they love the seaside so.hopefully the weather will be ok

Thanks for the mention of the ssupermarket opening times, it would not have occured to me

Do they have laundry facilities in the camp does anyone know

The holiday park/camp thing is foreign to me, we don't really have them in my country :)

We dont take coffee filter papers and in fact buy them in France as a lot cheaper than the UK!

We do take sharp knives and a knife sharpener. Holiday sharp knives are almost always blunt unless my DH got there before you in which case you could perform surgery with them.

GnomeDePlume · 22/05/2011 16:37

Yes, most campsites have laundry facilities. Most of the ones we have seen you buy tokens from the campsite reception. Check the details with your courier, they will know.

Campsite pizzas are normally great but thin crust (we like that by the way but I know some dont).

A top tip for catering is to make something (say cook some fish) but send your partner along to the takeaway to buy the chips to go with it. It works really well and makes a change.

We did Keycamp in Vendee last year. The area was very flat so perfect for cycling. I would recommend it, especially round the two islands Ile de Yeu & Ile de Noirmoutier. You can hire bikes with child seats on the back easily & cheaply enough. We took our own but couldn't cheaply take them on the ferry to Ile de Yeu so hired there for that day.

Have a great time and eat several almond croissants for me please!
