Legoland Atlantis - Guide to the latest ride at Legoland Windsor (with photos and videos)

Yesterday (May 20th 2011) the Atlantis Submarine Voyager ride opened to the public. Remarkably there was not a large queue when we visited - we went on it twice.

The Queue Line
The main queue line snakes around a lot and is all outdoors, so make sure children have hat and suncream. Queue Line Photo In the queue line there is a shop selling things like drinks and snacks - photo - which can't really be avoided as the queue line goes past it twice. Once inside the building the queue line turns sharp left then after about 5 metres turns sharp right where a ride operator will guide groups into either Blue or Red queues (think it's 6 people max each side).

.

QBot Access
Not sure if this is enabled yet but there was a quick way of bypassing most of the queue line.

Disabled Access
Not clear as to how this is done. Possibly via the exit/Shop (photo of sign above shop/exit). Access to the sub itself is via fairly steep steps and the subs are constantly in motion. It is also a little dark at times and obviously is a fairly cramped enclosed area.

Inside The Sub

Simplistic diagram showing seats (a bench which seats 3 people) ~ and stairs {}
The stairs are quite steep and the sub is constantly in motion plus if children are slow (to be expected) then there can be a bit of a hurry for the ride operator to shut the door. Blue turns Left at bottom of stairs, Red turns right.
If in Blue, the first bench (1) are the best view wise I feel. If you end up going to the back (2) then when we did that I felt that we didn't get that good a view of the fish as we did when sitting on the other bench (1).
If in Red, at bottom of stairs turn right and first bench (1) seems to be best view.

Inside the sub there are display screens. Below are the clear windows for looking out at the fish. Not a good picture, it's bit dark in the sub.

Ride takes around 4 to 5 minutes. Seemed shorter, so maybe 3 minutes of it is looking at the fish.

After The Sub

There are a couple of fish tanks which children can crawl under and up into the middle bubble. Photo
There is also a look and feel section, like at Sealife.

Exit is via the shop.

A few more pictures can be found on Completely Legoland Windsor. They report max people per sub is 14 and that there are 8 subs (though I think there must be more given how long the ride lasts - anyone know how many subs there are?)

Lots more pictures and technical data available on the TowerTimes website. Sub count of 8 is right, maybe my sense of time under water vs loading/unloading has confused me. Subs are numbered 542-1 to 542-8

If you ever see a sub numbered 542-9 or higher, do add a message to tell me.

it sounds crap
you sit in a car and look at fish?

nannynick · 21/05/2011 13:00

Yes essentially that's what you do... but 3 year olds love it Smile When we got home I had to make a sub out of Lego for him (he then added his own bits to my design).

If you want a longer time to look a fish, go to Sealife (such as at Chessington) or any other aquarium.
