Hello All -

Would be interested to hear your suggestions for things to do in the south of France - restaurants, activities, galleries, museums, beaches, water parks, fun/interesting day trips, etc.

I would also like to hear about any activities/locations with connections to specific artists. For instance, I know there is a Picasso museum (iirc his former home?) in Antibes.

I will have 10 year old dd with me, so any suggestions that might particularly appeal to her would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Don't underestimate just how big the south of France is. You don't want to spend the whole time travelling. I think you need to focus on an area and then you'll definitely find plenty to do there.

Good point.

We will be based in a small village in the mountains between Nice and Cannes, so hopefully I am correct in thinking we're 'in the middle' and can travel east or west fairly easily without too much driving.

Do you have any suggestions?

Agree with Cristina - the South of France is huge! And the traffic along the coast in the summer can be horrendous - I wouldn't be planning to drive too far!

Antibes is very nice - there is the provencal market as well as the Picasso museum. Juan Les Pins next door has a gorgeous sandy beach with restaurants set directly on the sand.

There is lots to do in Nice - several museums and a lovely old town. It's a must to go the flower market in the Cours de Saleya and have lunch. You can get the lift, or a little road train up to the top of Castle Hill behind the old town. The views are stunning and there is a great playground up there.

Villefranche Sur Mer is very pretty. There is a water park at Frejus.

Villefranche is possibly one of the prettiest places I have ever been.

hi Earlybird

we are going to the south of france in august - also staying in a small village in the hills above cannes/nice. wonder if its near ...

last time we went (house belongs to mums boyfriend) we did a few day trips, antibes old town was nice for a wander round and we went to a village called valbonne which has the most gorgeous market where you can have breakfast

we also took a drive up into the mountains to a place called gourdon which was lovely place to have lunch and we drove up to the lakes for a day where you could swim and the children all played together

i am especially interested to hear about any other ideas - dd will be nearly 6 this year when we go and although she loves the pool and local village I suspect we will need to do trips out most days to keep her amused. The watwr park sounds fun!
