Do baby car seats generally fit on train seats?

HI, I've never posted on 'travel' before (normally hang around on 'weaning').
I'm planning a train trip on the Euston to Glasgow line and need to take the baby carseat for the other end. Do you think it will fit on the train seat (am booking a seat for the lo)or will the table get in the way?
Also , while I'm asking, what's getting out of St Pancras like with a pushchair? I'll be changing trains from the thameslink to Euston and want to walk along Euston Road. Any advice from train travellers would be welcome.

Hmm, car seat tricky. I don't think it would fit safely on a train seat - you'd probably need to put it in the luggage area at the end of the carriage.

Getting out of St Pancras with a pushchair is easy. St P. is generally a fab station in fact. Don't know about the Thameslink though, haven't used that.

Thanks wolfhound , I'm pleased St Pancras is nice because we used to have to go to KIngs X Thameslink which was a seriously nasty station.

St Pancras is lovely and I agree that Kings Cross Thameslink was horrible Grin.

Not sure whether a car seat would fit on a train seat or not - am pretty sure the table would get in the way.

Are you going to be on your own? We travelled on euroster with a car seat and it was a very tight squeeze so we did actually put it in the luggage area. The walk is fine very flat.

No i'll be with dc1 and 2 (age 5 and 6) and possibly dh. This means we should get a table so maybe the LO can spend part of the journey sitting in the carseat on the table(don't worry i will not let her fall off!). I'm hoping she can spend a litle time in the car seat and have a sleep!

Trains don't have seatbelts (where I am they don't anyway) so the seat wouldn't be secure.

Hi,

I have travelled with my little one on trains with a car seat. IME it won't fit in one of those 4 seats (2 facing each other) with table. But it does fit in the 2 seats all facing the same way bit. Its called 'airline style'. You can book these specific style seats on The Train Line.

It would mean you can't all sit together, but it would be great to give little one a chance to have a sleep. I put up the sun shade on the MaxiCosi and gave him his comforter and he snoozed away.

If it helps at all.... I had him in a sling and had car seat slung over the handles of a rolly bag. It didn't make the bag any larger or heavier. Or if you are using pushchair - could you beg/borrow/steal one of those travel systems that lets you put the car seat on the base and take that instead of pushchair? Just thinking with 2 little ones and associated baggage, you could do with reducing stuff it at all possible.

If you can, try not to arrive in London at rush hour - obvious - but I didn't remember!

Finally - I haven't ever booked little one a seat. I had my ticket checked and no-one ever said anything.

Enjoy!

Thanks duke that's really helpful. Don't worry, i have a Phil and Teds pushchair to take so dc3 can sit in the back, the luggage in the front and the car seat hangs off the bar at the front. That is if i can find the back seat....
