1 year old and swimming pool

My dd loves the water, the bath, the swimming pool, wherever, have a hard job getting her to leave most times. Looking to go on holiday when she'll be 1 in September and wondering how long she'll be happy to play in the swimming pool/beach, or indeed how long is advisable. She already has 50+ uv swimsuit and hat.

None of my friends seem to remember what the their kids were like at 1, but the answer to this will determine what sort of holiday we go on, and where.

Obviously every child is different but some idea would really help me out

Mine loved the beach and pool at 1. I dug a hole in the sand when they were smaller so they could sit and play . When they were crawling and toddling I found a small paddling pool with a bit or water in placed under the umbrella was perfect. They sat in/ out poured water from a cup to a bucket . Then we did walks to the sea to get some more. This year the younger one is more mobile so am not sure how well that will work. I basically stick to the out of the direct sun in the hot hours..we tend to go home between 11 and 4 and then back to play again. In the pool I used a floating ring and then armbands at round 14 mths. Everything in moderation and forget a sleep on a sunbed !

The bets thing to do is go out early and then come in between 11 and 3 as that is when the sun is the strongest. Apaprt from that I would say she will be fine paying as long as she wants and as long as you are happy.

Thanks for your replies all, it helps a lot. Happy to sit and play with dd, and not a great sunbather, but i do like being in the sun/outdoors rather than sitting inside looking out at it, (bad i know but i am greek!) and am happy wherever I can swim

Now if I can just find somewhere to go that dh will also like (likes to sit and read and swim) and perhaps allows for just a little bit of relaxation for all of us that would be perfect. Onus of caring for dd is on me as dh is recovering from heart attack.

Would you say playing in the shade rather the indoors would be ok - obviously still skin covered with swimsuit and suncream etc. For dd that is , not me...

Oh yes ..What kind of place are you looking it ..Canaries ?
We do lots of playing in the shade rather than indoors we have an umbrella on the beach and then we often play in a shady area by the pool . Often the dds go in the pool with sunhats on just to cool off.....

Anywhere in Europe really, although not Greece funnily enough, don't trust them not to strike this summer

Our usual holidays have all been self drive tours never staying anywhere more than 1 night, with lots of hiking. So a beach based break is going to be quite different, but dh needs rest and dd always seems quite chilled wherever we go, I just need sun and sea

Not sure whether to go self catering, hotel or one of these leisure resorts combining the two.

Do you have any recommendations?

I found a pool more relaxing than a beach at that age, easier to keep an eye on them, and easier to put them down for a nap at the right time.

I would go for a self-catering gite/villa with a pool. Make sure that the pool is fenced, and heated if you are going in September.

I'm obviously going to suggest France, either Vendee or cote d'azur.

I would say a tranquil resort that has S/C and a restaurant on site ..makes it easy both ways. Also something with a playroom and child facilities . Sept you are notthat likely to get lots of children and if you pick a larger one it usually means that your dh could find a quiet corner to relax. I went to Gran Canaria in a RUI hotel in January when my dd1 was about 18mths. We stayed in one that was good for us but I would have picked one with more child facilities and actually on a beach ..we were one the dunes very scenic and we could walk or take a taxi to the beach and it was a great hotel. Also on teh edge of the wild night life that we never even popped in to see !!
