I have just peeked at your profile BB and am [green] with envy of your Magnolia tree, have wanted one all my life. DH bought me small one last year to plant in memory of our son, it died after 2 months:(

So sorry about your son, Triplets - and your tree.

I always enjoy The Wellcome Collection for a quick mooch - it's right next to Euston Station. Or maybe The Portrait Gallery? You could have a coffee at The Portrait Gallery too, or nip across to the crypt at Saint Martins for one.

If the weather is going to be good can I recommend The Roof Gardens in Kensington high street.....beautiful. Let me find you a link - back in a min

razors · 09/05/2011 22:38

voila

the roof gardens

razors · 09/05/2011 22:42

The Royal Academy looks good

pleasenap · 09/05/2011 22:51

mooch around trafalgar sq, NPG, Convent Garden ending up with depending on costs etc. Sanctuary Spa?

or my BFF just did a London day with a trip to Floatworks (floatation tank...like being in the Dead sea in a pod, in the dark - quite odd but relaxing)- cheaper with Tesco vouchers!, then Borough Market and lunch at Fish! Can't remember the nearest tube...its sort of Mansion House area - not too far from Charing X on the tube (walk to embankment on circle).

pleasenap · 09/05/2011 22:52

Oh...the London Eye isn't too far from Charing Cross either - just over the bridge to Waterloo. Used to be nice restaurant near there - RSJ?

bibbitybobbityhat · 09/05/2011 22:58

Yes, its a lovely tree. Thank you. Only in full blossom for about 10 days though and grows like billy-o the rest of the time. I'm terribly sorry to hear about your ds and that your tree didn't live. Perhaps you don't have the right sort of soil for it? I believe they hate chalk.

From Charing Cross I would def go to the National Portrait Gallery (rather than the National Gallery) - it is a fabulous art gallery but not so big that you can't do it justice in a couple of hours. From there you are just a brief stroll to Covent Garden which is a bit touristy, but still interesting (you can see some very good street performers), with any number of venues for lunch.

razors · 09/05/2011 23:03

You could do the Southbank then go to the oxo tower for lunch

triplets · 09/05/2011 23:04

Lots of lovely ideas to chase, thanks! Interesting Bobbity about hating chalk, I live in Deal nr Dover and the white cliffs!

razors great minds - I was going to suggest cocktails at the OXO tower!

Waterloo bridge has some of the best (free) London views. St James's park is lovely too if the weather is fine.

razors · 09/05/2011 23:17

Ah Mama you too have great taste then : )

razors · 11/05/2011 13:58

have you decided what you're going to do yet or do you need any more suggestions?

triplets · 11/05/2011 22:27

Hi sorry, been mad here. Am going up but no plans, forecast some rain s will play it by ear. Mainly would like a really nice but not expensive lunch stop, that would be my treat!

The Seafresh on Wilton Road is a classy fish and chip restaurant which is reasonably priced - Westminster Abbey and Cathedral are close by - have fun whatever you decide.
