Duck Tours and other things in London

Has anyone done one of these and are they fun? Better than a bus and river tour or not as good?

We are having a day in London soon and working out what to do. DD is a teenager so has decided some of the things we might have done in the past e.g. Hamleys, National History Museum are not cool and we have seen the main sights such as Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square before.

Last time we visited we did a BBC tour which we all enjoyed.

Read about the Duck Tours and thought they might be a laugh. Grateful for any other suggestions also.

I did a Duck Tour many years ago and my DC enjoyed it - but they were young then and I thought they would find a river trip a bit dull. Now the DD's are teens they enjoy Tate Modern, the tapestries and textiles at the V&A, they thought the London Dungeon was a bit lame. They like seeing things at the National (and also did a back stage tour) and have enjoyed some shows such as Wicked.Have done a boat trip to Greenwich and gone to the market and had lunch which was good. When one was briefly a goth she liked trips to Camden market, the other liked Oxford Circus Top Shop,Selfridges and Urban outfitters and lunch in Soho/chinatown. they also quite liked visiting the Globe theatre and seeing a play.
They often like going to see something connected with school work or an interest. For example a few years ago one read Coram Boy - we went to see the play at the national and also visited the Foundling museum. There are some great quirky small museums such as the Hunterian Museum and Sir john Soane's museum both in Lincoln's Inn and the old operating theatre museum and the clink. Also the fashion and textile museum in Docklands - all small enough to do as part of day's itinerary.

Hope you have a lovely day

Yes,Duck Tours are brilliant, been twice, once on a works do and then Dec 2009 for my DS birthday day out (DD was 7) he was 10. I loved the drive round London cos I'm far too chicken to drive in the City and the tour guides really knew their stuff.Very funny too.Saw the Christmas trees at Trafalger Sq, Buckingham Palace and The Savoy. The river trip was bally freezing ( there are plastic window blinds but you want the view),We didn't eat before as we didn't want to be travel sick (bumpy) so DD & DS were starving. Also make sure their bladders can last the duration- I think it's 45 mins, could be wrong. If you get a clear dry day it's brilliant, even better if you look online for bargain tickets.Enjoy.
