flying with babies/pram?

We are thinking of going on holiday to Southern Italy, DP, DTD'S aged 8months and myself.

This involves a change of plane in Rome.

Do we have to check in the pram? I know you can usually take the pram to the gate but if we are changing planes it will need to be tagged and as it's a twin buggy it is 3 pieces, 2 seats and the chassis which folds (icandy peach blossom) I worry that they'll either lose or damage the pram Confused

Any advice for travelling with 2 babies?

bump

Are we better taking the chassis and car seats as at least we'll have them and not have to worry about transfers etc?

Sorry can't be of help - perhaps contact airline?

Hi - we have travelled with our dtds several times.

we have always taken the pram to the plane steps and handed it in, you get it back though not at the plane steps on arrival but from the luggage collection. are you collecting luggage or going straight through? If you are going straight through will you need the buggy during the transfer process? if you don't have the pram at transfer stage, consider taking slings rather than trying to carry 2 babies plus hand luggage around the airport. ideally you want the buggy at transfer stage to wheel them around the airport/somewhere for them to sit etc

re the pram, our previous one also used to come in several bits, hoods, bars etc - we used to pack the bits we could in our luggage rather than risk losing them (we used to take off the hoods and all detachables and pack them and just check in teh chassis - that works as long as your chassis is still functional without the bits and bobs)

re car seats - they usually count as luggage so would be part of your luggage allowance

I would check with the airline re:

-collection of buggy - will this be at the end of the whole journey or at the transfer stage, if at transfer stage will this be from bottom of steps or from luggage collection

-car seat cost of taking or how much luggage allowance they take up

most airlines have a section re buggies/car seats on their web sites

have a great trip!

I don't have twins, but I think you should probably buy a cheap umbrella fold double for the purposes of travelling. Your pushchair may get badly damaged and pieces lost as it comes apart. You need something simple you can fold in onne piece to make it easier.

thats good advice from Eglu actually if you are worried about bits off your expensive buggy getting lost

Thanks Givemeaclue & Eglu I think you're right about buying a cheap folding buggy, I'm going to go to the next NCT nearly new sale and see if I can pick one up and 2 slings.
