We are stumped!

There is me and DH, and DD - who next summer will be 4yo (birthday in April).

We want to go abroad, preferably flying - ideally from Doncaster or East Midlands airports..

This is our last chance to do term time holidays - so probably looking at June.

So, what to do?

Happy to do short haul or long haul. Have done both before happily.

Did South of France in a camp site, and a few days at DLP this summer. hired a car for firtnight and explored a lot.

Year before was the biggie to Florida and Disney. Year before that was Italian lake.

We don't do sitting by a pool or beach very well. I need to be doing things - out and about, seeing or doing things. But we need something for dd now too- she won't want to be dragged round cities anymore for a while. She'll get bored. Not really into hotels either - like our independence now we have DD. And no kids clubs.

Tell me about your holidays - what was good? why? what do you recommend?

We need inspiration!!!

Thank you.

camping in the Vendee, loads to do, not just sitting round the pool/beach stuff

Furball · 03/11/2005 20:59

Hulababy · 03/11/2005 21:01

DH wants warm.

I fancy scandinavia, DH not so keen.

Told you - we have no idea. Hence needing loads of suggestions for us to mull over.

We do caravan holidays in Britain. Doesnt sound exciting but DD's (4 and 2) love them and talk about them all year. We thoroughly enjoy them too. Everthing is aimed at families both on and off the campsites.

katzguk · 03/11/2005 21:03

whatever you decide can we come?

Hulababy · 03/11/2005 21:03

Sorry, although we do love Britain - has to be abraod. Last UK holidays have involved too much rain. Not prepared to risk it! UK is too expensive in the rain.

i want a holiday

Hulababy · 03/11/2005 21:04

Katz - DD would be totally up for that. But I reckon we would send a lot of time babysitting whilst the DH's were at a bar!

Sis in law is just back from Salou (think thats how you spell it), theme park next door, big beaches, water park only a few minutes away. They have 3 boys (one with SN) and they all really enjoyed it.

katzguk · 03/11/2005 21:07

i know!

we can't do term time unfourtuneatly.

soapbox · 03/11/2005 21:29

Go to the Spanish coast near Barcelona and do a few days in Barcelona, a few days on the beach, a few days in local villages, day at a water park and a couple of days at Port Aventura.

Should be something for everyone in that

You can probably pick up a decent villa on holiday rentals website.

Hulababy · 03/11/2005 21:33

Spain - never been there. Will explore frther. DD would like being able to talk Spanish, jsut like Dora!

Caravan in Wales. Was good enough for me!

singyswife · 03/11/2005 21:40

Went to a caravan in Wales too. It rained for the whole week and we vowed we would never go back. Big on Caravan holidays though.

We did Costa del Sol from E Midlands 2 years ago - we went at Easter so a lot of places were still shut but they would be open in June. Short flight, fab beaches, fab scenery in the mountains, fantastic weather, cheap car hire, loads of activity parks and other things to do.

Andalucia.com

And you could visit the Alhambra which is just incomparable.

We rented a villa from holiday rentals which was pretty good.

All great Thanks a lot.

Hi Hulaby,
Acouple of years ago we rented a fabulous and inexpensive house in France. It was in the Auvergne nr Clemont Ferond, something like that! The house and garden with tree swings was enought to keep my three happy. plus it backed onto a very local little farm, the old owners were born on the village over 70 years ago and had never ever been out of it, can you imagine? The scenery was stunning, it is a volcanic region, with lots of volcanoes which just surprised me, you drive along and bang, there they are. We visited several of them went down them, up them, there is a fab place called Vulcania, great exhibits, loads to interes the kids, mine were 5 then. We went to the top of the Puy de Dome, wonderful breath taking views, you can on a clear day see htree other countries, watch the sky divers jump off the top! Glorious weather, fab food and of course plenty of wine! Highly recommended!

We're going to see DH's family in Cork! Coolness. Can't wait.

Austria www.farmholidays.com

Slovenia!!!!!!

Easyjet go to Lubjlana. It's small - size of Wales, baby friendly - most of the cafes and bars have child play equipment, warm (between Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia), the food is good, the people speak English and there's LOTS to do.

We went when the sluglet was nearly 3. Like you, we're doers not sitting round the pool types. It's small enough to drive across in a day and there's lakes, World Heritage Site caves (a big hit with dd), culture, wine, mountains, even spas for some chill out time.
