Costa Teguise, Lanzarote - Best things to do in a week?

Never been to Lanzarote before. One week booked in the Beatriz Costa & Spa, Costa Teguise - can anybody recommend the best stuff to do with a 9yo DD and DH?

First 'proper' holiday since finishing my chemo in Nov 10 so really want some R&R and a bit of fun!

Thx Smile

The main Beach is a bit black and hard there but if you have a car go a few miles north towards where the cactus garden is and there is a wonderful white sand beach - too hot to walk on!
Also we found a lovely tapas place a few minutes walk out of the main centre - it was a few years ago so don't remember the name - just stroll out north from the centre, it was in a little courtyard with a big tree in the middle.

If I remember the name I will post again :)

Have a great Holiday - you deserve it!

Thx! Think we will definitely hire a car for a couple of days, if we can find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg!

We've just had a week in Lanza ... Try Lanzarote a Caballo (flyers everywhere on the island, or Google) for camel rides - great fun. Hire a car or take a taxi to Famara beach - only 15 mins or so from Costa Teguise - make sure you go on a day when it isn't windy, it's a beautiful surf beach where you can hire body boards/ surf boards in the nearby town, Caleta da Famara. There are awesome patisseries opposite the surf shops, and the beach is lovely, proper yellow sand, dunes, volcanoes sweeping down to meet the sea, crystal clear warm sea and NOT very touristy! And if you like zoo-type things, Rancho Texas, near Puerto del Carmen/Tias, is fab - we had our photos taken with a sealion and gave him cuddles etc, 'twas lovely. Apparently the national park, Timanfaya, is worth a visit but our kids are a bit young so we didn't try it. And if you have the energy, go to the village of El Golfo for dinner - it faces west so you can watch the sunset, there are many beautiful restaurants, and a kids' playground at the end if the village near the rockpools :) DH & DS did lots of snorkelling too, at Famara and in the south ... It's a small island, uou can drive across it in half an hour or so.
Enjoy! Sounds as though you really deserve a holiday. Got any room in your suitcase for a stowaway??

Thank You Mrs Moppet - that's brilliant. All sounds right up our street. Have just discovered that our hotel has an amazing spa and thalasso center - sounds expensive but might just have to treat myself! Will send DH and DD out on the surfboards!

By the way for anyone else out there - Martin Lewis (money saving expert.com) has come up trumps again - £14 a day for a car for the 3 of us, inc taxes etc!

timanfaya is def worth a visit - at least my youngest (12), and i enjoyed it. HB bit bored, but he hates siteseeing anyway. if you go in a coach it overtakes the queues of cars

lanzarote v windy (the Sirocco - warm wind). timanfaya definitely worth a visit for anyone over 4 imo! demonstration of a geyser, hot rocks, amazing coach tour around the inhospitable landscape. new visitor centre nearby too which has a simulated volcanic eruption! costa teguise is a bit soulless i think but has the wonderful 'james bond' cesar manrique house nearby plus the jameos del agua and the caves. definitely worth having a car. caleta de famara v windy most days but great for shallow surfing with big waves - buy a bodyboard and ride the smaller breaks. playa blanca/grand playa at puerto del carmen have lovely sheltered beaches with the usual facilities and some tacky shops - usually quite busy. sunbeds x 2 with sunshade were about 10 euros per day.
visit to el golfo/playa quemada for lovely sunsets/authentic fish restaurants. we got a little fed up of canarian potatoes/fresh fish on most menus - not much variation but there are the odd 'locals' bars which have authentic tapas.

hope you have a great time!
