if we get a nice day next week, which London park is nicest for spending an afternoon sitting and having a chat? Nice surroundings, bit of people watching, possibility of coffee or ice cream?

Greenwich. Love it!

Regent's Park is lovely, beautiful rose garden (though prob not in flower now) and lots of lovely houses to gawp at if that's your thing :o London Zoo if you run out of things to do.

Hyde Park, grab a seat near the Serpentine and watch the boats (if anyone's out on the water that is)

More regional - I'm a big fan of Wandsworth common, nice shopping nearby, ponds and ducks for wildlife fans and good cafes etc.

Battersea park, sit by the river, go to the children's zoo (if you have kids in tow). Around the chinese pagoda is my favourite place.

I'm thinking right in the middle - just want to kill some time pleasantly until early evening. If the choice was Green Park or St James's, which one is best?

St James's wins - lake, birds including pelicans, cafe, general ambiance.

Pelican spotting it is then!

Of course it'll tip down with rain now and I'll spend the afternoon in a caff :)
